Charge 6 started tracking nearly double steps

ANSWERED

Hi team,

This week (as of yesterday), was Charge 6 is tracking nearly double the steps and distance. I know this because I am walking the same route to work.

I have not changed Fitbit position (dominant wrist), dominant wrist setting (dominant), stride length, or any other setting.

I restarted the device last night but no change.

Please advise.

Thanks,

Charles

Hello @charles1986

By any chance, did you set up your phone as connected device in the Fitbit app? This is an option to use your phone to track activities like walks & runs when you're not wearing your Fitbit device.

This is often the reason why users will see double the number of steps since both their Fitbit and phone are tracking steps.

To check, tap on the device icon in the upper left of the Today page in the Fitbit app and look to see if Phone is listed under Devices. If it is listed, you can disconnect it.

Hello @RiekoC

Thank you the reply.

My phone was connected. However, having disconnected it, the problem persists.

Any ideas on next steps please?

Best,

Charles

@RiekoC I have my phone set to count steps and have never seen double steps. However, over the last 8 years multiple times the phone has gone wild., adding thousands of steps a minute. Twice I was awarded 100,000 steps within a 15 minute period. I don't think Superman could walk this fast. It also is a hassle to get the false badges removed, and now that adding a driving event no longer removes steps. We can no longer remove the the false steps.

Because of this, I currently have 4 false badges. 40K, 45K, and 50K that I would like removed. The 50K badge was awarded on a day with only 20K steps

Hi @RiekoC ,

I think disconnecting the phone may have helped... It's definitely tracking less steps now - particularly when I am sedentary (at my desk). This can be seen by looking at the per hour step count on the graph and going back each day.

Thanks for your help.

It's not great I can't connect my phone though as a lot of the features on the Charge 6 depend on this.

Best,

Charles

Hello @charles1986

Thanks for letting us know that you're no longer seeing additional steps being tracked.

When you remove your phone as a connected device in the app, this shouldn't affect how your Charge 6 syncs with the Fitbit app on your phone to transfer your tracked data. If this is not the case in your situation, please let us know.

My Versa 4 is doubling my steps. It started doing this at the end of July. My walk this am logged 3,162 steps but on my today screen it showed 6,324 steps. I haven’t changed anything so I’m thinking a software update was made that changed the overall step count? My versa 4 isn’t listed under devices so the answer given doesn’t work for me. Help!

Hello @KAustad

Please post your issue in the Versa 4 product forum (<-- click link) where you are more likely to get assistance from other Versa 4 users.

@KAustad do you really have the same issue? You say that your Versa doubled your steps. Thaen say the Versa only counyed 3000 steps, but after a sync, the steps where doybled. This sounds like a Fitbit server or app issue, not an issie woth the Versa

I track my individual walks. My morning  walk stated I had walked the 3,000 steps but when I went to the today screen it said double the steps over 6,000. If it is an issue with the app, shouldn’t I be putting out here!? I don’t know if it’s all or Fitbit, I just know I have an issue and I thought that’s what this forum was for.

this was the issue for me! If you are using iPhone, you go into health and then steps and then manage data sources and drag the Fitbit device to the top. If you’re using a data sync app, sync it after this. It should start the NEXT day correctly.

Just been down the Apple Health & Fitness rabbit hole - there are thousands of MetaData relating to steps going right back to old apple device. Can we just delete the Health & Fitness Apps from Apple and just use FitBit?

Is Doubling & Tripling steps just a simple as Apple / FitBit conflict?
