Getting more steps with new Charge 6

I broke my Pixel Watch 1 and bought a Charge 6. I'm getting close to 50% more steps without an obvious uptick in activity. From around 8K to around 12K per day.

I want to believe the Pixel Watch lost accuracy after 2+ years of daily use and now I'm getting accurate numbers on my Charge 6.

What do you think?

@brar45 possibly different algorithm in the software.  And how the device interprets your movements.  I've had issues with Charge 6 properly tracking steps accurately when walking or jogging.

Example, my mom has a Charge 5, I'm on the 6.  We walk together the same distance, and speed and get completely different step counts and pace/speed.  What contributes to it is how heavy our individual footfalls are and how we swing our arms.  That's what I found when we did a mini test by switching devices.

When I jog the said distance then my step count appears to be more accurate.

Hi @brar45 and @KatherineNY Thanks for stopping by, I hope you're doing well.

Let me give my point of view regarding the accuracy of your Charge 6.

There are a few suggestions you can apply to ensure your Charge 6 is tracking your activity accurately.  If you haven't already read our information and tips on improving accuracy, please check out our help article How accurate are Fitbit devices?

An extract from this article says that factors such as whether the tracker is placed on your wrist, whether dominant or non-dominant, and stride length can affect the number of steps recorded.

A simple test may give you an idea of the accuracy of your device. Please follow the steps below:

  1. See the number of steps your Charge 6 currently shows on the display
  2. With your Charge 6 on your wrist, walk 100 steps, making sure to count a step each time one your feet touches the ground.
  3. Stop and check your tracker to see the number of steps.

Note: Avoid watching the device during the test and walk as you usually do to improve the measure.

Depending on the result, you can apply the suggestion from our help article.
