I cannot turn off walk tracking. I don't mind a walk being tracked but I don't want it to track it as an exercise with all the associated stats unless I specifically request tracking. I use my Fitbit as a watch and to count steps over a day. I don't want it to suddenly start a walk task when I'm just walking to the supermarket because I can no longer see my daily step count and the time is too small to see easily.

Welcome back to the Fitbit Community, @Franb1.
Thanks for letting me know about this situation in regards to the walk auto detection on your Charge 6.
You can turn it off for it to stop, follow these steps, please:
- Open the Exercise app.
- Tap the Bike, Elliptical, Rowing, Run, Spinning, or Walk option.
- Swipe up and turn off Auto Start. The next time your device detects this workout type, the Exercise app will not automatically open.
You can check more information here.

I tried this but it does not work. Walk shows up as ignored but it isn't.

I'm having this same issue, my fitbit is logging a walk after 6 minutes even though I have turned off auto recognise a walk.

I am having the same issue

There is clearly a problem. This problem has only shown up in the last few months so I assume a bug introduced in a recent update.

I can also confirm that this only happened after the most recent update. It's driving me mad!

Still the same problem for me. Did someone get it solved?

Still not fixed. I turned off all auto tracking but I still get tracking for walking and today when I was doing some light weights it wanted to track it as spinning (something I've never asked for).
Please fix this problem ASAP.

@Franb1 I looked at your public profile and saw that you used to use a Charge 5. The Charge 6 has a feature that is different from the Charge 5. The Charge 6 Exercise app (controlled from the device) can Auto Start 6 different exercises, if they are detected. They are walk, run, bike, elliptical, spinning, and rowing. This is completely different from the Auto-recognized activities that you control from the Fitbit app. They are the SmartTrack activities: walk, run, elliptical, sports, aerobic workout, outdoor bike, and swimming. You turned off the SmartTrack activities. Since your weights are being recognized as spinning, do this to turn it off:
Repeat these steps in the Walk shortcut to turn off the Auto Start for walking. You must make the change in each shortcut to turn them off.
This Auto Start is a feature, not a bug.

Thanks but I know all that. I've had a charge 6 for a couple of years. The problem with the auto detect is new as of a recent update

I also have found this issue with autodetect elliptical. I set it to ignore but it is autosensing that I am on my elliptical (which is accurate, but I don't need to be notified). I've set ALL autodetect to OFF, but I just saw that was noted as not being respected also. I suspect tracking to use more power, hence shortening battery life - can anyone confirm?

I turned off everything auto detect related, phone app, website, and the device, and now I'm not getting any auto detect happening ( which is my desired state). Prior, I had only turned off at the phone app and the site and was still getting autodetect. All is good now.
