My Charge 6 tends to have gaps in my sleep at night

ANSWERED

My Charge 6 started out doing well, but has recently started having gaps in my sleep at night.  These can vary from about an hour to 3 hours.  Not really sure what is happening or how to troubleshoot it, but this is causing stress as I have been using Fitbits to track my sleep for almost a decade now.  FWIW, during the periods that are not being tracked, I am totally out and sleeping.

There is a possibility that my Charge 6 is getting gummed up a bit on the back side that touches my wrist.  I am an ALS patient who has lost the ability now to bathe as regularly as I would like.  I would really like to fix my Charge 6 as I just purchased it last year.   I have been cleaning it up on the back side about once a week.

Hello @SteveGraham

Sorry to see you're having issues with sleep tracking.

You're doing a great job keeping the back of your Charge 6 clean. It might be worth a try adding one more cleaning a week, especially if you exercise on a regular basis.

When you get gaps in your sleep, do you see more than 1 sleep log? If so, have you tried editing & combing your sleep log into a single log?

Every now & then, my Fitbit doesn't track my sleep properly. My sleep log won't have the correct start or end time. Occasionally, I get 2 sleep logs. When this happens, I'll update my sleep log with the correct start/end time. When I have 2 logs, I note the start & end times. I delete 1 of the logs and update the other log with the correct start/end time. I've noticed that it usually takes some time for my sleep information, including stages, to update in the app - around an hour or so. I haven't figured out why my device does this, but at least I have a way to correct it.

Have you tried rebooting the Fitbit? I've found it useful on my F5 to
reboot it every couple months when tracking starts acting up.

@Sean_in_sd, Thank you.  I restarted it today.  Will see if that solves the problem.

@RiekoC this is fascinating, that when you edit the sleep start and end time, it fills in the blanks with the stages for you.  I had no idea that would work that way.

To answer your question, yes, I get two sleep logs typically for an overnight when this problem happens.  I restarted it today to see if that would solve the problem.  If it does not, I will try this method next.  FWIW, both problems are present, wrong sleep start and end times and two sleep logs with a gap in the middle of them.

@RiekoC Last night was just missing a few hours.  No gaps and not two sleep logs, so I went ahead and edited the start and end times to what I knew happened.  It worked like a champ!  Will see if the restart from today solves the problem more generally, but this is fantastic to know about.

Hi @SteveGraham

I'm glad that editing the sleep log worked for you. As long as you don't clear/delete the data in your Fitbit (i.e., do a factory reset), your Charge 6 should maintain tracked data for about 7 days.

Hopefully, doing the restart will help your Charge 6 better track your sleep. If it doesn't, you now know how to fix it.

This process worked in the former version but the new one will not update the sleep score.
