New charge6 - fitbit v google account - all broken

ANSWERED

I was forced to buy a Charge6 as my 15 month old charge5 stopped working. Bought a Charge6. Retailer did not tell me all my historic data would be lost.

I cant add the charge6 to my iphone as it says i have to create a google account. No documentation WHATSOEVER for people moving to Charge6.

What i need to do is to MOVE my data from Fitbit to Google. I have 6 years of dats that i want to TRANSFER to Google. I want the app to have ALL of my historic data available. How do i do this? From reading the forum posts it appears that this is not possible. Will i have to return the charge6 and buy a different manafacturers device? Please advise. Very disapointed.

@tonmilx   Please tap on the gear icon in the upper right of your Fitbit app to go to your Settings page.  The starting point to move your account is a prominent box at the top.  Tap on Move Account.  Follow the steps.

If you don't have a basic Google account, meaning you don't use Gmail, Google Meet or Chat, etc., then you need to create a Google account.  Do that first.

I was going to wait until Google accounts were required for all users, because my immediate family all still have Fitbit accounts.  I get an email about once a month nagging me to migrate.  I actually just did it a few days ago.  It took me less than a minute because I use Gmail, Chat, Meet, etc,

Based on some user posts, the people that lost their data tapped on "Sign in with Google" from the Fitbit app login page and didn't follow the Move Account path I wrote.

Transfer your Fitbit account to a google account doesn’t delete history. In my case I can still go back to 2017 when I first got my Fitbit charge 2 to the latest charge 6 going back through the years can be a bit slow at loading but it does eventually work. If you already have a gmail that is class as a google account so you can use those details (email/password) to transfer your Fitbit account over. I transferred my Fitbit account to a google account few years ago. The only thing that changes is you log in details. Obviously if you don’t have a gmail/google account you would need to create one but it’s all free and a easy process. Once you have those details just hit settings in the Fitbit app and click move account. It will ask you a few questions on your Fitbit data but it should still be there. It is in my case.

Thanks for this. So my existing fitbit username is in fact my @Gmail.com email address. I am signed into my fitbit account now but all data has disappeared. I had stuff back to 2018 including cycle routes and heart data. All gone. Should i migrate the acccount now? Do you think i can get my data back? Im thinking this has screwed me over. I have never received any emails from fitbit or google at all about account creation.

I changed to a charge 6 about 2 weeks ago and moved to my gmail email rather than yahoo. I have all my data saved since 2014 when I first got a fitbit. So you shouldn't have lost data. The only exception that might not transfer is of you moved from one gmail account to another then I believe it thinks its a totally new person.
