Pregnancy setting/mode for more accurate data

Necessary:

Logging a pregnancy is a must, as is the ammenorheic period due to breastfeeding.  These drastically affect predictions making the app useless for many.  Eg. I have entered my data since 2011.  My periods are like clock work occurring every 27 days... but I have had 4 pregnancies in that time so the app is telling me that my peiods average every 104 days.

Useful:

Option to add basal body temp and ovulation data (eg. predictor strip).

I have a suggestion to build into the scale and weight tracking.  Before I got pregnant I was on my way to losing some weight with the fitbit scale.  I love that I can keep track and have an accurate number to see how much progress I've made.  Now that I'm pregnant it's obviously not advisable to really use the scale for weight loss of course.  However, a suggestion could be to add a feature in for pregnant women to help them keep track of their weight during the 9 months and then help to lose the weight after the baby is born. I still use the scale but am just ignoring my "goal weight" at the moment because I still want to be able to track my weight and make sure I'm staying on a healthy path throughout pregnancy but it would be helpful for other women to have that feature.  There are other pregnancy apps that I can use but I don't really want to use multiple apps and etc. to keep track of everything.

Please add breast feeding as an activity so I can log it.

Make sure you have switched your profile to indicate you are Nursing here: https://www.fitbit.com/user/profile/edit.

Then you can manually log the activity of breastfeeding by following the steps found here: https://help.fitbit.com/customer/portal/articles/413311-how-do-i-log-or-record-an-activity-

As a pregnant or nursing mother you burn more calories (depending on stage of pregnancy etc). This would be a great addition to personal settings to take into consideration all the calories you burn.

Also in the weight section, your weight should increase while pregnant. So it'd be nice for your goal weight to be plus a pound every two weeks and when you gain more or less tips, suggestions, and warnings would be nice.

Love this idea!  A whole "pregnancy mode" could be really helpful - I'm having twins and need to gain 40 pounds over the course of my pregnancy.  I use both a tracker (Force) and the Aria scale.  Would also be a great reason to eventually incorporate a heart rate monitor as pregnant women aren't advised to let their heart rates get above 140 bpm.

You could even partner with one of the big pregnancy sites (my favorite is thebump.com).

Selecting the Nursing option should also affect how many calories we're allotted in the diet plsn. I'd like to use the app to track my food intake and return to pre-pregnancy weight, but I know I should eat an extra 500 calories a day while I'm nursing. Currently, Fitbit suggests I eat far too few calories to support breastfeeding. I think many of us nursing mothers would appreciate an update to this feature.

I selected the nursing option in my settings and even with walking my 10000 steps a day Fitbit tells me I'm burning less then 1700 calories in a day... If only breastfeeding consumes almost 500 this number doesn't seem to be right at all... So what is the BMR change it does? Can you specify the calculation for it?

Make a "pregnancy mode". I know you can do it! Make it so that I can track a healthy amount of weight gain and still remain active (yes, as long as doc says it's ok) and track my food not only by tracking my calories, but checking off whether or not I'm getting the right nutrients. (During pregnancy, it's more important to make sure you have the right amount of fruit, veggies, whole grains and protein. Calories are important to track as well, but not as much as nutrients.)
Also, in terms of healthy weight gain, there are guidelines doctors use with how much you currently weigh to determine how much you should gain during pregnancy. For example, if you're in the normal range you can gain 25-35lbs, if you're overweight it should be 15-25lbs. There is an app by MobileMom called weight gain calculator that tells you whether you're in or out of your range for that week of pregnancy. There's also a food tracker app called 9 months where you can check off how many servings or fruit, dairy, etc. you've had that day.
I'd love to be able to do all of this within the Fitbit app! Mostly because I'm not sure how many calories I should really be eating to gain (or not) the right amount of weight.

The ability to have increased calories available to consume and burn is essential for this app to be worthwhile to nursing moms. Many other fitness apps already have this option. Does fitbit actually comment on the status of these suggestions, or just let them sit out there in the forums?

Breastfeeding naturally burns a certain number of calories per day, but nursing women also need to take in extra calories at the same time. Flex should have the option to choose breastfeeding in the account input and have the caloric data be tracked just like exercise, and the caloric intake per day should count the calories burned by nursing.

@Paigiet25 There is a nursing setting on the settings page on the web in the Body Info section. (I'm not 100% positive that it adjust calories, but I don't know why else they would have the setting there.)

My app doesn't have anyplace to input that info and in never on a computer I can goof off on. I've heard from reading other reviews that it doesn't do what it should anyway.

The trackers do what they do. They give you a good sense of your activity level, and they help to motivate you. Are they absolutely accurate at all times? No. But are they pretty accurate? Yes. As I see it, there really isn't a reason for me to need to be 100% accurate, but there is definitely a reason for me to try to raise my activity level. Just my opinion, but maybe something to consider.

I got a fitbit for christmas... .and then found out I was pregnant.. while still nursing. I checked off both of these options on my profile and nothing changes. So how in the world am I supposed to see a full and accurate picture of my calorie needs and really stay in target if I have to manually calculate some of these things? This is really disappointing for what is touted as such a great tool. I have sent several messages to Fitbit on FB, and they just redirected me to this thread, which everyone else is echoing the same thing I am. They suggested "Thanks for the question! At this time, this feature does not presently make any adjustments to BMR. We'd like you to share your suggestion and ideas to our community page for our engineers and developers to see it!" and "Thanks for your feedback about this. We're sorry about this inconvenience. We checked in with our Specialist about this, and she recommended looking into 3rd party apps, such as MyFitnessPal, for calorie adjustments as well as checking out the Community to see what other women are doing." So now you're telling me I have to use something else in addition to your product? That's lame and I am highly disappointed in not having the simple capabilitiy of just adding 500 calories or so to my daily intake needs on the app. So, engineers and developers, if you are reading, you are missing out on a huge part of the market with your product because I, and others I'm sure WILL HIGHLY NOT RECOMMEND YOUR PRODUCT for this reason.

Hi, I would like to see options in the setup for women who are pregnant or breastfeeding. We have different calorie requirements, so we shouldn't follow the suggestions given to us. It would be nice to have the extra calories factored in. Also for pregnant women, it would be nice to have weight gain goals that match healthy weight gain according to a woman's BMI.

Thanks!

Would really like this feature. Seems strange to me to have that option on the profile screen if it doesn't work? Smiley Frustrated

would appreciate the nursing option to account for the 500 calories burnt each day

There should be a setting for pregnant and nursing moms. The tracker always says I take in too many calories, but I have to. P/N moms need at least an extra 300 calories a day.

It would be great to include sleep data too. Nursing comes up as asleep, when I'm not!

Yes! Please, please, please make the pregnant/nursing option actually DO something to the daily calorie count so we can track everything correctly without second-guessing or losing our milk supply! We nursing mommas are some of the ones who need this device the most, and without this feature, our rather large dempgraphic just goes unrepresented -  and this makes your device rather useless to us. Don't make us use a third-party app; this actually kind of makes me want to return my fitbit and recommend against it to my friends.
