Hue App, unable to setup

I can't even get it to work on the Ionic.  I've put the IP address for the bridge in the app, the app says Nicely Done, however the Ionic still says Set your Bridge IP - have made no progress at all

Confirmed. The app doesn't work no matter how hard you try. Stuck at "Set Bridge IP" even though it is already set. Reinstalling app does nothing. Setting bridge IP again does nothing. Rebooting devices does nothing. Support staff here does nothing.

It's nuts that this continues to go unresolved.

This could definitely be the issue I'm pretty sure the fitbit will only connect to the 2.4ghz network, whereas the hue bridge may be connected to the 5ghz network. Try giving the networks separate names. And connect the devices to the 2.4ghz network.

Best Answer
The hue bridge connects to the router with an ethernet cable. I get what
you're saying because I have several "smart" outlets that can only be set
up on 2.4. In this case I don't see how that can be an issue. All hue
devices connect directly to the bridge. I don't even know what spectrum
they're on.
Best Answer

I mean your phone, fitbit and hue all need to be connected to 2.4ghz.

I've tried both. Has no effect. The app has a 1.9 rating. This is a
developer issue. I've yet to find someone post that this app works.

+1. I would echo the same sentiment as everyone else on this thread. Just for reference, I have been in IT field for 15 years so tried all troubleshooting steps and found this thread, this app is garbage.

Mr Moderator, the issue is not resolved.

Best Answer

Does not work. All troubleshooting steps tried like 20 individuals before me. This app is s*it.  I work in IT so I have tried turning it off and on again. 😆

is this the same for the Versa 2?

I have tried on several occasions to get the Hue app working without success.  Remove/reinstall, update, turn on/off, all to no avail.

It's definitely an app issue.

Spent 30-40 mins on line chat with a helpful assistance at fitbit, but no progress.

My house is all Hue and having the control on the watch would be great.

Disappointing to say the least!

Why has this still not been addressed in an app update?

The support team already knows the Cause for this issue:

  • The Philips Hue app currently only works on home networks with an IP subnet of 192.168.0.x

Most internet providers give users a router that uses 192.168.1.x or 2.x by default, but the app no longer works on those subnets. At some point the Philips Hue app appears to have been hardcoded to only accept connections on the 192.168.0.x subnet.

This was the answer I got from support, it has been mentioned somewhere on the Forums before, and I have tested it myself. As soon as you change your home network over to use 192.168.0.x the Hue app can be used, but on any other subnet is no longer supported and you are stuck on the "Set Bridge IP" screen.

This shouldn't be something that takes >1 year to resolve. And if you don't intend to change it just take the app down...

Wow! I can’t wait to get home and try this. I’m amazed after all these years no one has posted this answer. Thank you!

Yes it is still an issue now 2020-11-10.  Even for the Sense which I bought hoping that their latest would get more dev attention.  I was wrong.  I don't know why this isn't pulled form the app store if they are not going to maintain it.

This didn't work for me.  After re-ip'ing my entire home network and upsetting people with the multiple prime-time outages (only time I had to work on it was 7-8pm which is everyone's favorite streaming time) it didn't even work. Then I tried to keep the 192.168.0.0/24 network in hopes of revisiting, but it seems I had some printers and other smart devices with the old address scheme hard coded.  What a PITA.  I guess I'm going to try the independently developed "Fit Hue" app developed for $1.99...albeit sketchy since they have the price currently posted as "1,99" (yes that's a comma).

Yup, I have a ton of things on my router, and a ton of Hue items, and I am not messing around with assigned fixed IPs for one app that should work better.

An app update for Hue was just pushed. But it doesn't seem to change the IP address behaviour/limitation on Android.

It also doesn't seem to be updated for the Versa 3/Sense screen size yet either.

March 16 2021, still doesn’t work on a network in the 192.168.1.x range, and I’m on the latest iPhone SE with an Ionic. Oh well... uninstalling...

Same as @haakern. Bridge is on a 192.168.1.x range and no joy at all. uninstalled. This app should either be rewritten (4 years of issues based on this thread) or removed.

Seriously.

This does not work. It’s obvious the ip problem everyone is having. Why can’t you guys fix this? It’s a worthless app if you don’t and it should be taken down.
