I just finished chatting with support and now they can not confirm when new apps will be arriving or what the apps will be.
The rep said late winter to early spring hopefully.
Wondering if if I want to wait that long or return the ionic? How are others feeling about this? I thought apps would be here before Thanksgiving. 😕
I am worried Fitbit will replace the Ionic by then and never give good support for it. So I would have purchased this device for nothing.

With the ease of development for Fitbit OS I think apps are the last thing anyone needs to worry about.

Some cool stuff there. @KarenLeah, did you see the drink counter someone made?
The Pong looks fun. Some of those clock faces look absolutely gorgeous.

The SDK is an interesting read if you’ve been around software for the last 30 years. I can’t see any ‘real’ apps for awhile, go ahead and disagree I’ve said my peace.
Plenty of clock faces will roll out for sure, but ‘real’ apps will lag. A lot of long/hard work for Fitbit, I’m sure they will get there.

Software is not a quick or easy process. Apple has some of the best programmers on this planet and OS X has been around for years and they still release updates and bug fixes.

Not sure if they are still having the sale, but Dick's Sporting Goods was having a 20% off storewide a few days ago. I was able to get Target to price match, and using my Red Card netted another 5%, so I was able to pick one up for 25% off...
Now trying to decide if it's worth returning and paying full price for the burnt orange - unfortunately Target doesn't have that color in stock.
Really want that color but not sure if it's worth losing the 25% ... 🙂

I didn't realize that all the bug fix, software update would take longer than this.
As a rule, software always takes longer than expected. What works fine in one environment doesn't work in another, and you have to debug why. Given the number of carriers, and phones, and devices to interface with, it can be a pretty staggering task. If something can be fixed that easily, then it would likely have been fixed before launch.

I wouldn't worry too much about that. All of the app store and FitbitOS updates will affect the entire software ecosystem, not just any new trackers.
If you look at the numerous complaints, only a small percentage of them are about the Ionic hardware. the problems aren't with the Bluetooth implementation, or the HR scanner, but with the Android and IOS applications, and the firmware. Work done on second generation FitbitOS trackers would be applicable to this first generation Ionic, as well.

Hi everyone -- We’re glad you’re as excited as we are about new apps coming to Ionic! We can tell you that new apps and lots of clock faces will become available in time for the holidays, but can’t share additional specifics at this time. Our app developers and developer community are hard at work bringing new apps to Ionic. You can check out some of what our developer community is working on at #Made4Fitbit, and stay tuned for updates.

"In line with this, at launch, Ionic will offer Weather powered by AccuWeather, Pandora, Starbucks (North America only) and Strava apps. The App Gallery will continue to expand with more popular apps expected this Fall, like Adidas All Day (US only), Flipboard, GAME GOLF, Nest (US, Australia, EMEA only) and Surfline[ESR4], plus many more apps and clock faces created by our developer community."- Fitbit Support

well - it's two years later and the Ionic is still going strong. Plenty of new apps over that time.
Glad you made the investment?
