Strava Authorization state: Not Authorized

Hello.

I got my Ionic a few days ago and I have a bit of a problem with getting Strava app to work. I don't know if this is the correct place to ask this question or it should be posted in Windows phone app section.

This is my hardware:

Fitbit Ionic

Windows 10 mobile on Microsoft Lumia 950 XL

When I open settings of Strava app on my phone Fitbit app, I click on Authorize and then I'm asked to log in with my Strava loggin passwords. I do that I'm shown another window (picture 2) where I can click on authorize or cancel. I click on authorize and then I'm thrown back (picture 1) to Strava app settings and it says it's not authorized.

I can authorize Strava - Fitbit connection if I do it on my PC on a Fitbit dashboard there. Then Strava is authorized and data from my run activity was transfered to my Strava account.

But the app on my Ionic just say "no recent activity" as it still says on my phone app that Strava isn't authorized.

How can I make this app working?

I'm confussed then. The not authorized with the Strava Fitbit app is not about the syncing of any data between Fitbit and Strava.. This happens without having any Strava account on the Ionic or Versa.

It is about a Strava App not being able to log in to the users Strava Account and therefore is not able to display the Strava history.

This login problem has been acknowledged above, in the past users where able to log in.

Happy Saturday all. Just thought I would jump in to provide some quick clarification.

The issue highlighted on this thread is related to the 'on wrist' experience with Strava. Many of you have reported seeing 'Authorization state: Not Authorized' when attempting to link your Strava account in the App Gallery. Screenshots of this experience can be found, here.

To my knowledge, the integration between Fitbit and Strava is still working. Meaning that the API between the two is not broken and exercises can still sync over for users who have Strava. The issue outlined in this thread has more to do with using the Strava app on Ionic.

If you are having trouble syncing exercises between the two services in general, I recommend reconnecting the integration.

@Gailemmar Welcome to the forums! If you are seeing 'Authorization state: Not Authorized' when attempting to link your account from the app gallery, then this is the correct thread. I do not believe this to be a hardware issue, but our team is still working to have a fix implemented and I appreciate your patience.

@Anthropologist Thanks for the assistance. Hoping to have an update on this issue soon!

@Rich_Laue Thanks again for all the support!

Hi Matt

My query got moved to this thread so I'm a little confused to now be told I'm on the wrong thread. My issue was around Strava not synching - account not being authorised. Which is what I said earlier. And what i understand still hasn't been resolved. The app has never worked - gave up on that one months ago. It was pretty useless anyway so really not bothered.

Response/solution would be nice please.

This recently happend to me, my Fitbit app can no longer authorize.

The problem is the fitbit android app that it is not sending data to Strava after a run.

Both fitbit and Strava have allowed permissions to connect. If i change my weight on Fitbit it is able to sync and i can see the weight change on Strava, so that proves the Strava data connection is working.

The problem is the fitbit app not sending data to the strava web service.

Add me to the list. My activities were correct til a couple weeks ago. My most recent ride is there in my Fitbit "recent exercise", but not in my Strava app. I'm having the same trouble with the authorisation routine.

This was the only thing I was using the Ionic for - all the other apps being next to useless. So now I'm back to using Strava app on my phone again. Fitbit should just recall this this model and start again. I'm on watch two. The screen fell off the first one after it proved to be very unwaterproof.

I agree. I only bought this watch for the GPS and Strava feature. Strava is the only App I use and now it’s not working. Would be good to know how long they think it will take to resolve otherwise I should have stuck with Garmin

Since last week, the sync between fitbit and strava works fine again, altough the status is still showing "not authorized". All my runs are automatically uploaded to strava, no idea why it works again.

I HAVE JUST GOT IT WORKING (sort of) !

After much testing I finally got it working by enabling notification service in my fitbit app. As soon as I did that all my strava runs Synced right away.

I think think it stopped syncing after I turned off my notifications on the watch because it was annoying me.

Steps I took last week - unlink strava from fitbit website.

Unlink fitbit from strava website.

Uninstall strava app from fitbit ionic

Uninstall fitbit app on android

Uninstall strava

Reinstall all the above (it still didn't work)

Connect all the services it still says unable to authorise - but I knew it was an error because when I changed my weight on fitbit my weight changed in strava. I suggest you test if that works. (still didn't sync runs at this point)

Today enabled notifications including call notifications in fitbit app for the ionic, accept all the permissions and added fitbit to the android notification system. All my runs synced right away.

Will do more testing

@philipkern @Simax1 We are hoping to have this issue fixed soon. Your patience is truly appreciated.

@Jillyholli @SunsetRunner @SSW74  As mentioned, the integration between Strava and Fitbit is still working. So your exercises should sync over from Fitbit, so long as you have the integration enabled. This will not resolve the issue with authorizing the Strava app found on Ionic but it will still keep track of your recorded exercises.

Hope this helps. Let me know if you have additional questions!

Thank you for sharing!

Sadly I still can’t get it to work. So gutted I am in the middle of marathon training and I really need it to work!

Ive tried everything I think.

@Gailemmar  while I understand not being able to to see the past Strava history from your wrist, I'm not sure how the lack being able to see a summary of your past Strava events on the wrist will affect the marathon training.

Mine is back to not linking the run data back from Fitbit to Strava. The workaround for me is to manually export the data from the Fitbit desktop app as a .tcx file and import it into Strava desktop app.  If you are training for a marathon and really want / need to analyse that data hopefully that is an option for you.

That's OK for those of us with windows devices inflicted upon us, but if you are solely reliant on your phone to access this stuff it would suck although I suppose its possible to get to fitbit.com and strava.com via the browser

Hopefully Fitbit / Strava can get this working as intended soon.

Somehow once again the recent run data eventually shows up on the Ionic Strava app, the last time took nearly three days.  I did just try the suggestion above about turning off / on notifications, so maybe that caused it, who knows.

Not sure what triggered mine to stop data transfer again:(  I noticed it had stopped after I installed another app.  Like most Ionic apps it was pretty useless so I deleted it again, but since then I have to manually bring the data into Strava.

Thanks Iain. Useful info. I’ll have a go!

I hope yours gets fully sorted again soon.

Splits tend to be different for some reason when it transfers to Strava and I like to see my elevation. Hopefully that will help

Splits I think are dependent on what you have set up in the app.  My most recent shows 0.5mile splits in Fitbit, which is what I have my run settings set to on the ionic, but the same data sent to Strava then shows 1 mile split times. If I change my Strava preferences to kg/km then it switches the split times to kilometer splits.

Elevation change appears to be the same in both, I guess that is culled from the GPS data in the file.

@Iain_K data transferring between your Fitbit account and your Strava account it not what this thread is about. It you would like hello, please start a new thread about your issues.

Hi Mo. You seem to have solved my problem. All I did was turn on notifications for emails again (this time choosing an account that doesn't get many). My ride appeared almost immediately. Now I need to deal with the fact that it still double posts all rides, and the email notifications are annoying, but overall the result is a good one. Thanks for your help.

Hi all

The below from Fitbit has finally resolved it for me. I’ve done it a few times and it didn’t work but this time it asked me to authorise what Strava can see eg. Weight etc which it has never done before.

  1. Visit http://stravefitbit.com and tap or click Connect.
  2. Log in to your Strava account.
  3. When prompted, authorize Strava to connect to your Fitbit account and follow the on-screen instructions.

Thank you so much for those who were supportive and tried to help.

Shame as that there is a community champion who is bordering on rude when we are all just trying to resolve our issues though.
