I've only had my Ionic a few days. I had one that Amazon replaced because of a scratched screen. I never had problems with the weather app on the old one. It took me a bit to check and remember I had to input the city for the weather app to work with the new Ionic. I did that and I'm pretty sure I've checked the weather without a problem since.
Now, every time I go into the weather app on the Ionic, it tells me to sync with my phone app for updates. Syncing doesn't update. I went into the phone app, thinking I'd remove the city and add it again. When I enter the name of the city, the list of matches doesn't show up like it did before.
I'm pretty sure I checked the weather on this particular Ionic in the last day or so and it was working. It shows my city and the neighborhood where I live now, but no weather information.
There was an update for the android app last night, so I can only presume that's the source of the problem.

Try uninstalling the app, power off, power on, re-install the app.
City choices should pop back up.

That worked at first. But now it's telling me to sync again. I can't remove and reinstall the app every day.

Sometimes clearing the Android cache partition helps "reset" mis-behaving apps.
You get to cache partition by powering down phone, then
power up while holding the Volume Down button at the same time.
Make sure you choose CACHE ONLY,
otherwise, you'll nuke all the data on your phone.

I know you're trying to help me and I appreciate it. Unfortunately, I think you left out a step. When I did that, I didn't have a choice to clear anything. Did I need to go into recovery mode? The bootloader option?
Thanks!

I haven't done this recently, but thought it was easier than described above:

I cleared the cache from just the fitbit app. I didn't clear the data. It didn't fix the problem I can tell it's going to be an issue because I search for a city in the weather app on the phone and it doesn't find any locations. I called fitbit support and they were useless as usual. They insisted that I didn't know how to add the city (it was added before and it used to work) or that the watch not being connected to wifi (it's connected right now) was somehow causing the problem on the phone app.

You can clear the app cache by just going to Settings - Apps - then choose your app.
To clear the System Cache, you'll need to get to "Wipe data and cache"
I'm on Android 7.1.1, if you're on Android 8, or an earlier version,
just Google Android Clear System Cache,
and follow those instructions.

Upgrade to Android 8.0 and any patches after that. There is a Bluetooth fix in the latest. It would also be helpful to update your signature.

I have Project Fi and they keep me up on all the OS updated. I checked for an update and it says I'm up to date. I'm not sure how interested I am in installing beta software on my phone because fitbit has problems. I'm not having issues with other bluetooth stuff.

I just checked my Nexus 6P, and no Oreo yet either.
The 6P wipe is a little more complicated, but I just did it on mine.
Google "Nexus 6P - Factory Reset & Wipe Cache Partition"
and choose the 2nd link.
There's an additional step of Power button and Volume UP button

So, yeah, I followed those directions and it came up and said "no command" when I selected Recovery Mode. I really don't want to know what's wrong with my phone that's only apparent in the fitbit app.

That's the tricky part,
that's when you hold down the Power button,
then tap the Volume UP button one time.

Sadly, that did not fix the problem. Maybe youall should give some lessons in helpfulness to fitbit support, tho.

Once you've cleared the system cache,
uninstall and re-install the Fitbit app.
the key is to be able to re-enable "Location Permission"
That box is un-checked by default during installation,
just be sure to re-check it.
For some reason, the Fitbit app is forgetting that it has been given Location Permissions.

Well, it's working again now. But that's the same thing I did yesterday, aside from the whole clearing the cache thing. Thanks for your help, all!

Actually, I "spoke" too soon. It's working better, but not correctly. The watch used to show weather for my city (that I entered in the phone app) and the neighborhood where I currently am. It also used to update when I went somewhere else. It's not showing the city and it hasn't updated from my work neighborhood since I got home. I've synced a couple of times and no joy.
