About: Community Ranks

ANSWERED

What does it mean to be a Jogger, Hill Runner, or 5K Racer anyway?
Your rank is an indication of your involvement in the Fitbit Community. If you continually visit the forums, your rank will change to reflect the time you've spent here. By posting and contributing to discussions, you may progress even further through the rank structure and unlock additional account priveleges.

Your Rank title is displayed beneath your profile picture and Community name.

What determines my rank?

Post count is not the only factor that is included in the rank formula--that would be too simple! In addition to creating content for the Community, you get points when your answers are voted up or accepted as solutions. Voting for other helpful posts and being the first to respond to other member's questions can bring you even closer to achieving your next rank.

How can I rank up?

The easiest way to rank up is to visit often and add value where you can. The rank structure was developed to compliment the wide variety of ways you can engage with your fellow Fitbitters. As a community member, you can vote for the posts you find helpful, post new questions and then identify and approve the solution that helped you most (these are called Accepted Solutions). You can also comment on feature suggestions and start new discussions around topics of interest. It's a combination of these activities that will help you to achieve the next rank.

Hint: Scroll to the bottom of any community board and click through to posts in the Unanswered Topics section to help new members, rack up more points, and earn yourself a place on the Most Helpful Authors leaderboard!

I skipped a rank, is this normal?
Ranking formulas are calculated using Boolean logic. Your journey through the rank system might not be as straightforward as Jogger > Recovery Runner > Base Runner. You could actually skip from Jogger all the way to Strider if the conditions were right. For example, if you started off taking your First Steps and then posted 10 times, but didn’t receive any votes on those 10 posts until 100 days later, by which time you had posted 20 more times and received 5 Accepted Solutions, you might jump ahead to becoming a Strider even though you’d have skipped a good 3 ranks in the process.

I don't identify as a runner at all, can I opt out or customize my rank title?

Community ranks are designed as a lighthearted way to encourage engagement and offer other members a little extra insight into your participation here. They are not linked to any individual preference or setting, and it's not possible to opt-out.

Community ranks and reputation

While ranks can give you a general understanding of how much expertise another member has and how engaged they are in the community, the best way to get to know fellow community members is by striking up a conversation with them! You can also learn more about the other members here by visiting their profile page (to view another member's profile page, click on their community username).

You are awesome person and I love the idea.

I'm not clear about the purpose of the ranks.  I understand the stickers, awards for my own accomplishments.  The encouragement and acknowledgement help.  But the ranks?  If that is only about posting, then it is merely encouraging more posting.  That doesn't necessarily benefit me.  It benefits fitbit very directly.  So, I'm not clear at all.  Why should I care about a rank?

The activity that seems impossible today, will soon be your warm-up

@Bobbinyc The purpose of ranks is two-fold, as far as I understand it. You're right that it encourages posting and participation in the forums. Fitbits wants to encourage people to interact with each other and help each other. That sense of community is very important and keeps people motivated and working toward their goals. The other reason I see for ranks is to know how experienced someone is when they answer your question. If someone has a higher rank, you are more likely to get a useful answer to your question.

@betpchem I agree with your opinion regarding ranks and their purpose. It is indeed for encouragement no doubt, but I think you hit the nail on the head, so to speak, when you opined that it is a way for others in the FitBit Community to

....others in the FitBit Community to ascertain the experience, knowledge and readiness to help answer questions to those who are new to the Community. I am an "Interval Runner", and quote new, inexperienced and don't often try to answer questions, because I do NOT have the knowledge to guide others yet.
Gooseberry, I am trying to participate in CHALLENGES and make new friends, read pays, etc. These are giving more knowledge experience, and ability to guide. 🙋👟🌲Great system, I think.

Thanks for your concern. I seem to be getting better every day. Yesterday I
did as many steps as I could which were over 21,000 steps. I couldn't do
that without a lot of pain a week or two ago so I think I'm going to be OK.
Thanks!!

Thanks for the comment. Running has been part of my life for a long time so when it's gone I have to do everything possible to get it back or at least be able to walk or jog again. 😎

It's funny that community rang depends on how often you visit the community by posting and contributing to discussions. Why not measure or focus on person's activities? I got Recovery Runner rank that just next to Jogger rank. I've been running about 5 - 10 km. almost everyday for nearly 20 years. BTW it's my private opinion just want to share on fitbit community.

Thanks for all the responses. I think the best way for me to view
community rankings are the "It takes a village". Everyone brings something
We all have various goals and skills. Participating in forums doesn't
measure anyone's commitment. Those who read the posts benefit (hopefully)
and recognize (hopefully) that we are here for many of the same reasons and
the rankings are not a reflection of who we are.
Best Answer

@paso That is correct. Every one brings something. It does not matter what rank you are.
