I have an Inspire 3 and am tracking exercises with connected GPS.
Of my past 20 rides or so, it has failed to track a large part of the journey on two separate rides.
One example:
And another, with satellite to show that this is outdoors with a clear view of the sky, not in some dense forest or cityscape.
By comparison, I had previously logged a few thousand kms using Strava on the same phone and it never did this once, which demonstrates that this is NOT an issue with GPS, or my phone, or any other sort of user error, that instead this is clearly a bug in the Fitbit software.
So far the responses I have received from Fitbit have been things like:
* Sending me links to the GPS help page which is a list of "user error" and very basic questions
* Tell me to restart the device
* Tell me to update to the most recent version of the mobile app
* Tell me to force quit the app and clear all data
What I would love to hear is some sort of acceptance that there is actually an issue with the Fitbit software, and that there is a plan to try and fix the issue, and an expected date when it will be fixed.
In case the developers need my guidance 🙂 it surely isn't rocket science to replicate the issue:
1. start an exercise with connected GPS
2. move the phone far away from the device so connection is lost
3. bring them back together, check that the connection is robust and reconnects within a few seconds.
And to fix, if the device is currently recording an exercise, and has been connected to GPS at some point, then it should be polling every, say, 10 seconds to make sure that connection is still there, and if not, re-initiate it.
