my fit bit has a notice on it this morning to set it up. I guess my battery has expired. What I want to know is if I set it up or set up a new fit bit will I lose all the badges I have earned with this one?

I don't know anything about your set up notice. But all your data, including badges, is stored on Fitbit computers by your account ID/email. As long as you use the same account ID, any Fitbit you use will still have all your data, or at least all data since the last time it synced.

I tried to do the setup but when it got to 4 boxes they were all empty and said to try again. then the number 1496 came up. there were other numbers a couple of times beginning with 8. now my Bluetooth says I have 7 fitbits?
