While I have seen a few folks report very credible accounts of what they did to hit 80,000, 100,000, or even more steps in a single day, said "credible accounts" are few and far between. As for the folks who report that many steps day-in and day-out, I would argue there is some form of cheating going on.

I know a few people that have come close, but only a few and they are people that run ultra marathons. After they run an ultra marathon they rest for several days, so I'd question anyone that consistently has super high step counts. The most I've every been able to do in a single day was 55K.

In most cases, even running an "Ultra" won't get you anywhere near 80,000 steps in a day. I've done two 50k Ultras and the most steps I got for either of those two days was something like 57,000 steps.

@SunsetRunner hey there. are you asking if it is possible or are you asking if it is probable? I am sure there are circumstances that will result in someone getting 80K steps. Let's say they run a marathon or are involved in some kind of charitable walk. Is it probable that it is done everyday? Hmm, maybe for a few days for those who are keen to reach a milestone, after that, I would think fatigue would set it and they would be on rest. If these people are outside of what you think is reasonable for you, then I would definitely avoid challenges with them. Otherwise, to each is own.

@emili, even a marathon won't do it; I'd wager 80% of all marathoners typically finish a race with 40,000 steps (plus or minus 5,000 depending upon stride length).
Best Answer@shipo I did a half marathon (13.1 miles) and ended up with over 32K steps.

Hmmm, I'm trying to bend my brain around that; the average person when walking generates roughly 2,000 steps per-mile and when running, the per-mile step count is virtually always lower. I'm trying to figure out how you averaged 2,442 steps per mile.

Yes, 12K steps per 5 miles.
Best AnswerWow, amazing! I've been actively in and around the running scene for 52 years now and to this point, I have never once seen anybody log so many steps per mile while running. I mean, over the years I've trained with, coached, run with, and had a few beers with literally many hundreds of runners, and never once...
Out of curiosity, how many steps do you log when you walk a mile?
