This fourth month of 2020 will bring more mud in my area — and more COVID-19. Like there isn’t enough already! But try not let it get in the way of your goals. Temperatures should be mild in both Northern and Southern hemispheres. Get outside (if authorities allow and you are not sick) and experience life! If you need to be inside it may be time to add some bodyweight exercises to your routine, some yoga, or something else new.
Me, I’m going to try and learn to ride a unicycle this month!. And, of course, I will be washing my hands 10-15x/day, and maintaining 6 ft distance, and otherwise trying to “flatten the curve" in my community.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures
The theme of the photo scavenger hunt this month is changing seasons and the effect of COVID-19. It is the beginning of Spring in the North and Fall in the South. So blossoms for some of us, falling leaves for others. And since the pandemic is still raging, pics of how life and people around you are adapting to that new fact of life — including, if you are learning something new in your fitness life, your progression in that. Hopefully I'll be able to share a pic of me actually on my new unicycle sometime this month!
Once the rain stops I'm going to get on this thing!
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

One of my neighbors saw me practicing on the unicycle and he called his Baltimore Sun photographer wife to come over and take a few pics ... and I wound up in the paper! I was told that if the editors used it it would be part of a daily 'picturing Maryland' photo series designed to be a little more uplifting than the typical bad news that makes it into the paper. It's placement -- right under the headline "Maryland's deadliest day ..." -- seems a bit ironic given my wife's conviction that I'm going to break my neck learning how to ride 🙂
Maryland deadliest day is NOT about the dangers of riding unicycles!

@WendyB You're a bit of a machine really, aren't you 😄 Jealous of your diligence to your daily goals, particularly as I have hit a bit of a plateau 😕
@Baltoscott Congrats on being your local newspapers 'page three girl'. Do/did you have those in the US? Normally a scantily clad woman! Also, celebrate that in this time of closures that you still have a printed newspaper!
@NellyG I am a little concerned that you find cleaning a pleasurable activity 😱 but very happy for you that you have a new house 😀
Also, a bit of an unasked for advise: We had our annual fire smoke detectors check yesterday. While the guy was up the ladder, I got him to put in some fresh batteries that I had bought, and I updated my annual note to my phone calendar. Is it time to do a spot check of your smoke detector? 🤔

@Baltoscott , I just laughed out loud about the placement of your picture right under those headlines! It looks like you are barely touching the fence at all and are really making great progress.
