Goooood Morning (or afternoon)! It’s Thursday and on Saturday, my girlfriend and I are going to attempt to get 100,000 steps throughout the day. My current PR is 51,021 which wasn’t that hard. Any tips for us? We plan on getting up super early (3am or so). We have several parks and trails mapped out so we don’t get bored. We will have snacks and drinks with us to keep our energy up and stay hydrated. We also have meals planned out every couple of hours. Someone mentioned wearing compression socks so we may buy some of those later today. We regularly walk 20k+ per day so I think we are equipped to handle 100k. We don’t plan on leaving our bed on Sunday. 😂💪🏼
What tips can you guys offer us?
Thank you!
Kristy

Good luck!
I would be hesitant to go with compression socks if you haven't been wearing them. They might work great, but I wouldn't choose that as a time to start experimenting with my feet.

Thanks for the feedback. Maybe we will try them but also take other socks to change into. 🙂

Go to bed super early the night before and start at midnight - save those precious 3 hours for later in the day when you'll need the rest more. Use targeting, e.g., 6000 steps and hour with a 20 minute break every 2 hrs should get you there in about 20 hours overall. Keep it as flat as possible to minimize energy expenditure (I like doing laps around a lake, laps of a couple miles are long enough to keep it from getting boring, but always close enough to supplies so that you don't have carry much). Sounds like you are ready and have a plan, Still, doubling your PR can be a bit of a push - hope you make it!

Thank you for your reply. We’ve had a couple people tell us to get up at midnight. We thought about being in bed by 6p (with the help of a couple sleeping pills). Maybe we will set our alarms for earlier than the planned 3a. Will let you guys know if we make it. We plan on documenting it and may put it on YouTube. 🙂

@llkristyll Best of luck!
I found some youtube videos of people getting their 100K steps in, they are pretty fun to watch.
I also like this blog post by one of our forum members. And this one is fairly recent, back from January.

Biggest piece of advice...take care of your feet. Be sure to use some type of lotion that helps prevent blisters. There are several on the market and this would be a MUST! Blisters can kill a long walk in a hurry. Also, have other lotion available to treat chafing, because that will probably also become an issue later in the day.
The other key is nutrition. You will need to eat plenty of high energy foods to replace the calories you burn off. If not, you will run out of energy late in the day.
I have done four 24-hour races as a walker and have learned from my own mistakes. If you take care of yourself physically AND mentally, you can do it.
Please let us know how it goes. Good luck!
