I don't have my Charge HR yet, hopefully next week, but I have been wondering how to use it in spin class.
Currently I have an Up 24 and I attach it to my ankle and it records my steps. I also use a chest strap HR monitor.
When I get the fitbit I think I will still use the strap so that I can see my HR on the bike's montior. But if I put the Fitbit on my foot, I will be missing that HR reading. Can I manually enter HR info? Will it make much of a difference if I just have the steps and not HR recorded?

I would manually log the calories you get from your HRM it will be the most accurate.Thats what I do anyways

Thank you! I will try that out tonight.

Dumb question, how do I manually log the calories? I put the FitBit in my sock and it recorded 100 less calories burned than my Polar HRM did. So confused.

Forget the steps, on your foot you'll only get 1/2 the "steps" that aren't actually steps anyway.
The HR info will be more accurate than the device using formula intended for walking and running steps.
Just start an activity so you know the start and duration times, so when you manually log it, it replaces the calorie burn Fitbit saw.
The activity record can then be deleted if desired since the calorie stats are no longer valid. Or keep it for the step stats.
You may also find like some - the device will read the HR on the ankle, just line it up well with vessels there.
Then compare afterwards if it saw the same avgHR for the entire session.

Thanks,
It actually did read my HR on my ankle although it read slightly higher than my chest strap HRM. fI ound it odd it showed the calorie burn as 100 lower. Maybe because it was so high it was spiking out of zone? I had timed the exercise too, should I not do that? I am used to doing this on my Up 24 where I start the stopwatch and then at the end I say what I did and then adjust the intensity level to match the calories burned.
I will evenatually figure this all out.

All HRM makers have a proprietary formula they use to estimate calorie burn.
So even if the exact same average HR was seen the entire time, there would be differences in calorie burn.
Hit the button if you want an activity record to give you the start/end time, so you can manually log the workout for start/duration time.

Hi,
I love the Charge HR, but one thing that disappointed me was that it wasn't able to cope with my regular spinning classes. When worn on my wrist, it would usually show a HR of around 124 - 135, occasionally going up to 150+. Sometimes it couldn't cope with the sudden increase in HR and show a '--' reading.
Then I tried it on my ankle, inside a well fitting sock, as the strap won't buckle around my ankle, it worked perfectly!
I then placed my phone on the floor and set the screen timeout for an hour.
I could watch the HT reading real-time, it was very accurate, going to 166 at times and keeping in track with the ups and downs of the spin and showed a burn of 500 - 700 calories so I'm .... REALLY PLEASED 🙂
I noticed someone mentioned the half counted steps and they're correct, as the Fitbit was aroud my right ankle, it only registered a step on the right side, I could see that happening, so I guess I'll just have to double that count manually once I've finished.
Great product !
