Cycling Around Town-Madison, Wi

Hello! Murphy from Madison, WI here to talk about cycling!

It's probably my favorite way to get around (granted I am not the fastest cycler haha). Madison is such a great AND SAFE town for biking.

In our town we have a great program called the Madison B-Cycle. Basically you pay a fee and are able to use these awesome bikes with various stations around town. There are a TON of them just floating around the city. If you don't live in the Madison Area, though you are in a more urban setting, I highly recommend checking out the bike programs. It may be a gateway for you to start a life of cycling.

Now, I pose a question to some developers of FitBit. I have been told that an option for Cycling is underway (I have a fitbit Surge, so that's exciting to hear). Is this true? If so then that's superb! Does anyone have decent alternatives in the meantime to track cycling?

Sounds like a great program you have there! Unfortunately we don't have anything like that here, but I do a lot of exercise on my exercise bike, which is good as it records distance, calories etc. However I'd like to hear too about a Fitbit option to record cycling so I can sync it all up accurately!

From what I've read on the Surge forum here, there aren't any good substitutes for tracking cycling currently. Fitbit has announced a major firmware upgrade for the Surge coming in "April" that will add tracking of cycling, fix the many GPS issues, correct a variety of known bugs, and some other things. I'm hoping/expecting this upgrade to be spot on perfect considering how long it has taken, with Fitbit explaining the lengthy release cycle as being because of "extensive testing."

But Fitbit is a good company, that's why I'm on my third tracker with them, and I'm hoping that cycling will work great - that and the GPS feature are why I upgraded to the Surge. (I knew cycling wasn't there yet from my research, but my hopefully justified faith in Fitbit lead me to the purchase in anticipating of them getting it right.)

From Austin, Texas, where cycling is very popular, extremely dangerous, and all too often fatal.
