Here we are — the last month of the year, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations ... so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals -- and maybe even DANCE a bit around the mistletoe -- just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2019?
General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt
This month look for and post pictures of at least 3 outdoor holiday displays while out and about.
Union Station - DC
34th Street - Baltimore
Posting
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Sorry, haven’t reported these past two days. Our daughter and family came yesterday and stayed for dinner. Met a good fruend for lunch today, then made cookie dough, called my Mom, and then baked and decorated Christmas cookies. Too tired after ckeaning up (both days) to work out.

Got back from vacation last night and got my first weigh-in for the month this morning. The actual scale reading was 164.1 lbs, but since TrendWeight uses a moving average to smooth out water weight changes, it 'only' went up 1.8 lbs from last month. So, starting weight this month is 161.3 lbs. If I hit my monthly weight-loss goal (I usually don't), I'll erase the vacation gain plus a little bit more. We'll see how it goes. Decembers can be pretty challenging!
Also got back to the gym this morning. I counted out my available days for the month and adjusted my weight-lifting goal from 13 days to 11. One down, 10 to go.

I feel like I might be getting the hang of 5,000 steps per day. It’s easier to get them during the day. And I’ve got more strategies for getting 250 per hour. Today my only missed hour was during a meeting that I was leading... I even stepped out of my daughters orchestra concert to get my steps done (during a stage change between groups).

December Goals:
12/12-12/31
10000 steps 18 times
Post 12 times
Record food daily (19)
Weigh daily (19)
Today is the first day of recommitting although I did do the post and the food and the weigh yesterday I am not going to record them. I did pick the toughest day to start as I work approximately from 8 am to 11 pm today with just a few scattered breaks. I did 2 x 10 minute treadmill sessions this morning between emails. Gave people time to respond. Now I have about 10 minutes to shower and eat and pack food for at work.
I went into a deep depression in November and regained 10 lbs in one month. Not water. Sigh. But since this happens peridiodically I am looking at it as at least I had "pre-lost" it. I'm still better than where I was this time last year.
It looks like my life gives me about 6000 steps most days so I am just focusing on getting the rest for now. I lost my workout partner and the rainy season has hit so doubly struggling for motivation. Plus end of year crap.
@LisefromCanada- hi! I always love it when I find a Lise. Thats my middle name and my Mom's name and is so rare in the states and everyone thinks I just can't spell Lisa.
