Dancing December Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

Here we are — the last month of decade, holiday food everywhere you look, all sorts of social obligations so .... why not recommit to your minimum daily fitness/eating goals, just to make sure you don’t lose the baseline you’ll aim to beat next month when you plan out 2020? 

 

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.                       

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

This month look for and post pictures at least 3 outdoor holiday displays or holiday costumes while out and about.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Wow, our weather has been great for Christmas!  Look at the temps by day below

 

12/24  Steps 21,713, floors 12  70 degrees

12/25  steps 25,428, floors 5     74      "

12/26  steps 22,998, floors 35   69     "

12/27  steps 27,619, floors 26   55 today at noon, cloudy expecting rain tonight.

Oops.  Up a pound this week!  Just too much social drinking and eating, Lots of good times with family and friends though.  Good thing Legendary January is just around the corner!  

 

Jane and I started bird watching walks with our local audubon chapter this past month.  Went out with the good camera later and got this pic of a red-winged blackbird in flight ...

Yes, I think I pretty much bowed out too.  I looked back and see I haven't posted since the 13th!  And I haven't been good at meeting my goals.

 

Dancing December Day 30

Daily Step Goal 5,000 18/25  -  I've had some all time low days this month, with some days not even hitting 2,000 steps.  UGH!  I have a bad headache every single day that typical grows into a migraine and trying to keep up with family commitments has taken all I can do each day.  😞  But I'm not too worried, I have a plan for getting back on track in January!

Yoga Stretching Goal 2/25 -  I pretty much gave up on this one early on. I have been doing many of my yoga stretches throughout the day most days.  But haven't set aside time to specifically focus on doing yoga.

10 Min Cardio 18/25 -  At least this goal closely matches my steps goal achievements.

Lunges 11/15

Planks 11/15

15 Minutes Outside 25/15  - The dogs pretty much see this happens whether I want to or not.  (That's a good thing!)

Eat/Drink Fruit 26/25 - I've pretty much nailed this one!  Although it's been a challenge some days.  My husband made fun of me one night because I sat down with an ice cream sundae covered with a full banana and nuts because I hadn't had my fruit that day and really didn't want the banana I needed.

I did do 2 Christmas challenges with the dogs.  A 5 day Ugly Sweater Contest that involved lots of tug of war practice. (Great for Cardio!)  And the 12 Dog Days of Christmas that involved lots of Christmas picts of dogs doing certain tricks.

I hope everyone had a great Christmas!  I had fun with dogs and family.

Despite not doing well on my goals, I am still holding steady at a 186 lbs even with all the Christmas eating.  That's almost 120 lbs down from where I started 2 yrs ago and just 20 lbs over where I should be.  So I'm happy to be holding steady with all the health issues I've had this year!

I’ve deleted my weight loss goal from this month’s list since I’ve been miserably unsuccessful.
