Hello everybody. I was wondering if people prefer doing exercise before going to work or when they come back. In my case I like to workout when returning back home because it helps me to sleep once I put my head on the pillow. I heard that some companies have a racetrack for their employees to run 3 or 4 laps before working to start full of energy. What is better for you?

Hey! I am definitely a night person when it comes to working out. I see the benefits of starting the day off right with some movement, but ever since I was 13 years old I have had volleyball practice from 8-10 pm so working out at night has become more natural. I also agree with you that it helps with sleep, but I really can not vouch for the morning side because I've never actually tried being a morning person when it came to working out.

@EdsonFitbit, in my case I prefer to workout before going to work, I'm just too tired when I come back to do any exercises.

I would say even though I am half asleep in the morning, I am definitely a morning person.

I guess it's very hard for me to jump from the bed and start doing my stuff right away. I am one of those guys that needs to warm up the engine and sometimes, it takes a while.

I would absolutely love that! We do have a gym at the main campus, but it's almost exactly the same distance from work as my gym - just in the other direction from home.
But I'm an "after work" kind of person. I just don't want the added stress of trying to get a workout in and then getting to work on time. If I go after work, then it doesn't really matter how long I take.
Having said that, my weekend runs are in the morning because then I have the rest of the day free to do whatever I want.

@Raviv Yeah, it would be great having exercise options at work. Hopefully in the future.
@bdaniels04 Switching times is a great idea because it doesn't feel like a routine.
@I-train-hard @WendyB That's another option. Some of my coworkers do exercise at lunch and break time too. Do you have a place to workout in your jobs?

I prefer doing exercise at night @EdsonFitbit! I agree with @Raviv, I don't like to add the stress of getting on time to work. I do believe that working out at night is a little bit more relaxing, and it helps to relief stress from work. Also, once you finish you can take a nice shower and go for a long and renewing sleep.
Have an awesome Monday! 😉

Another vote for @Raviv! I don't like the fact of getting tired from gym to my job. I rather get out of all stress from the job at the gym.

in an ideal world i would excercise in the morning, but IRL there are two kids and we eat breakfast together as a family, before i drop one at the bus and drive the other to a park near her school and my work. we get up at 5:45 and are out of the house by 7:30 for an 8:15 start all round. i couldn't handle getting up earlier - and it would be too dark to walk safely outside with busy roads and potholes and such and id not last long at night. i walk for between 30-50 minutes at lunchtime, and do flights of stairs every chance i get, usually i hit 10k by the time i go home. after work i swim or walk or work out at home - especially if my steps are low.
weeknds are different, i get some choice, so i escape and walk for over an hour mid morning - again once the family are up and fed and the laundry or housework shared around, and i have done my share, and i swim for another hour late afternoon
so i guess my answer is i would work out twice, morning and afternoon, if i could but family obligations and work stop me so i squeeze in what i can when i can.

Hi! Recently i have been trying to go in the mornings before work because when i get home and my bum touches the couch i am much too lazy to get up again to go for a walk, let alone go to the gym. However, i do struggle to get up an hour or more earlier than needed, especially as its become coldner now. So i think im still trying to work out which will work better 🙂

Too many people on the weight machines in the afternoon so it's kind of a no brainer. Plenty of cardo equipment at Planet Fitness so the afternoon workout is no problem.

Wow, it's great to hear that everyone tries to accomodate their schedule to exercise. I usually use the stress I get during work and change it into energy on the gym.
