Exercise Calorie Calculator. Please Help.

ANSWERED

I worked out for the first time with my fitbit today. I have a Charge HR I turned on workout mode (holding in the button until it vibrated) and then started my work out. I walked at 3.5 miles per hour for 37 minutes and walked 2.1 miles. My heart rate average was 150 bpm. It says that I burned 284 calories. I feel like this is a bit high. When I manually logged the same workout it said I burned 140 calories. Does this seem high to you? I dont want to log more calories burned than I actually did as I am trying to lose weight. Thank you!

Where do these calories go? Are all of them added onto my calories I can eat for the day because I dont see it stated anywhere clearly. I used to use MyFitnessPal before this and when i logged exersise it clearly showed that they added whatever number of calories I burned to the number of calories I can eat for the day. Does the fitbit work the same way?

You are correct.  The calories you burn are added to your total number for the day.  Once you sync your fitbit to your computer the numbers will be updated to reflect how much more you could consume.

and yes, if you are in cardio or peak you will burn calories very fast. if you were in that zone for most of your work out, then that is close/correct for calorie burn.

If you heartrate is in the fat burning or cardio zones for your body, then you will burn more calories.  If you are certain your fitbit was accurately tracking your heartrate during your walk it could be correct.

Yes. I am sure my heart rate was measured correctly. It was in cardio for 90% of the work out and fatburn for the other 10% when I was cooling down. I have used other heart rate moniters before I got my fitbit and this data holds true to my previous data. I'm surprised the heartrate moniter creates such a large difference in burned calories.

@Mizvk, but if you are trying to lose weight then you probably do not want to. you want to leave them alone so you are under budget for the day... if you are not trying to lose weight then a peanut butter blossom is what I would have... yum
