FYI July — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

 

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2019, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme this month is a parade or other outside event or a famous landmark.  In the US there should be plenty of material on or around July 4.  Elsewhere it might be a market or someplace near you that regular shows up in the paper or on television.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I may be changing my goals at this rate.  Smiley Mad Unfortunately this month has been terrible for my steps between the heat, humidity, and my asthma flaring from all the construction dust/debris/stuff I've been inhaling over the past two weeks.

Goals:  20k+ steps per day, 25 floors or more. No point in logging miles since steps are up. I am still doing the free weights and yoga about 3x a week.  Still hiking with Jake about an hour per day.

 

7/7 steps 31,390, floors 12

7/8 steps 33,636, floors 31 

7/9 steps 23,920, floors 36

 

To clarify a possible misunderstanding, I'm not 62, got my Social Security card when I was 12 for my first part time summer job.

 

@SteppingBooks  I like the charge 3 mostly due to the much easier to read face. I'm farsighted and don't take my reading glasses on walks but I can read the display now.  Can't seem to find a way to display the day of the month. Oh, and I had recently replaced the band on the charge 2, but they don't work on the 3.

@benvegi I'm not surprised that the bands are not interchangeable between the 2 and the 3.  That's good to know that it's easier to read.  I am unfortunately so near sighted, that without corrective lenses, I can't see anything clearly if it is beyond about 6" from my face.  I wonder why it won't display the day of the month though. 

 

Like I said, I toy with upgrading to it, but I've loved the convenience of the One just being tucked nicely onto clothes with a clip.  Thankfully, I have a back-up One that my mom bought, never used; still in box Smiley Happy Provided it doesn't get that glitch like some others talked about.

I looked at the Versa, but the watch is too big. I do too much outside work
and woodworking to go with a bigger watch. Last time my band broke I just
put the watch in my pocket.

The bands are interchangeable between C1 & C2. Trouble was the broke quite
often.

I did mow yesterday, which is definitely a work out when you're pushing the mower uphill.  This humidity is just killing my asthma here.  I don't know how does anything get done down south with the heat and humidity worse than this.
