FYI July -- Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

FYI July — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Just a little For Your Information that we are halfway through 2019, and it is time to sign up for another monthly challenge. And a reminder that if you happen to see this for the first time mid-month, jump on in; there is no need to wait for another challenge to start next month.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

The theme this month is a parade or other outside event or a famous landmark.  In the US there should be plenty of material on or around July 4.  Elsewhere it might be a market or someplace near you that regular shows up in the paper or on television.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

July Goals:  EOD 7/14

15,000 Steps on Weekend Days:  3/8 Days

17,700 Steps on Week Days: 1/23 Days

Yoga Twice a Week (4 Full Weeks): 1.5/4 Weeks

Free Weights Three times a Week (4 Full Weeks): 2/4 Weeks

I only got to do yoga once last week; but I did go for a small hike on Sunday.  I think that is a fairish trade given that I got my heart rate up a lot higher than I normally do.

@Baltoscott - Definitely sounds like allergy eyes to me.  There are some over the counter allergy drops for eyes, but if I remember right, they can take up to two weeks to start working.  Otherwise if you can get a prescription, there is an astastelizine eye drop that works well (not sure I've spelled it right).  The only thing is if you wear contacts, you may need to take your contacts out for 15 minutes with the drop.  Pattaday (again spelling unsure), I believe you can use with contacts in, but confirm that with the prescriber.  My mom has used both and loves them.

I've almost always suffered  pollen/hay/grass allergies.  My area is considered a "Pollen Bowl".  My specialists have offices in a couple places, and several of the practitioners can feel the difference in their sinuses as they come into town.  Unfortunately, I'm battling allergens indoors in addition to outdoors.  I wasn't on medication, but after my visit this past Friday, I've been prescribed an antihistamine and a nasal spray.

Haven't found and outdoor activities or govt buildings yet, but here is a photo of part of my family. This was taken in a federal park on the North Fork river.

Baltoscott, yes the water resistance is good, but you won't find me down to
50 meters unless I'm in a submarine. We do walk in the rain, like today, as
long as it's not lightning.

Gosh, more bad news about the C3. I am addicted to the easy to read screen
when outside. Also the waterproof feature is great! We met our
kids/grandkids at a local federal park on the river last week. I forgot to
remove the C3 as I jumped into the water then paddled around on an inner
tube. Got out and panicked over leaving it on till it dawned on me that
it's supposed to be good to 50'.

Will keep everyone posted on any more problems with the C3.

Glad you got your C3 working again @benvegi . Mine works fine most of the day, then for no reason stops syncing or sending notifications. It took awhile getting it synced with bluetooth yesterday, but in the end it worked every time. For some odd reason the button in the App to Sync All Day gets switched off. 🤨

Loved the family pic, too!

@Baltoscott hope your allergies clear up.

@WendyB I never heard of compression shorts, but it does seem weird for the doctor to recommend them. Hope all is well with you soon.

Joxtex: I have problems sometimes syncing my charge 3 about every 2 weeks. I have to turn off Bluetooth, Shut down phone. So back in and force sync but let it turn Bluetooth back on. Royal pain but it works and keeps going for a while

@WendyB @Jotex   It won't reset with just restarting the Charge 3?  Every so often (usually at the most inconvenient time), my One stops syncing for whatever reason.  I just reboot my One, and it'll sync without additional issue.  I don't even bother turning off my Bluetooth or restarting my phone.

I've seen a lot of comments lately with the various updates going on the Charge 3 has had some technical difficulties with syncing.

Best Answer

@SteppingBooks  mine would not do it with a restart. Most times it does. But sometimes the charge 3 is stubborn. It`s different than my one.  I very rarely even have to reset my one

@WendyB  Strange.  I wonder if there is something in their coding then that is causing all the problems.  Though given all that is going on, I wouldn't be surprised if they found a lot of little surprises like that in their codes based on watching all the things going on.

I'm hopeful it will all be sorted out before I need to buy a new tracker.  I rely on it heavily.

@WendyB a d @SteppingBooks, et al, my Charge 3 stopped syncing midday, but later caught up on steps without my doing too much. I am still puzzled (annoyed?) that it turns off the setting to Sync All Day, which means I miss seeing reminders or getting notices (bzzzz) when someone is calling or has sent a text message. But my annoyance isn’t as great as my appreciation for the features of the Charge 3. Fingers crossed they get the coding configured correctly and/or get the bugs out! 🤞🏻
