Fit Bit phone App

When using the Fit Bit phone app for tracking exercise (logging miles and miles per hour running for example) Has anyone experienced pausing the app, like at a traffic light when tracking your speed, and when you take it off pause, it shuts down and you can't start it again till tomorrow?

I have contacted Fit Bit several time about this since last spring.  Initially they said no one had reported a problem.  Has anyone else experienced this?

A former co-worker of mine dealt with such issues; if I recall correctly, he solved it by messing with the power management settings on his phone.
