I am a 70 year old woman whose husband travels a lot. That means I am home alone sometimes. My husband worries that I might fall and wants me to get one of those clunky alarm necklaces, so I could push a button if I am injured. I carry my fit bit in my pocket everyday and would love it if Fitbit could incorporate a alarm button to push incase of emergency.

Fitbit is a fitness tracker, @Jacsu, and is not a medical nor emergency device - it has no capability to communicate with any service to notify it of an issue. In your case, it would be best to evaluate devices designed just to call of emergency help if needed.

I also think it may be an option for Fitbit to consider. My son bought me my Fitbit, thinking it may help me recover from a Heart Attack that I had. I like my Fitbit and I take my most recent weekly report to show my Dr. he is pleased to see my actvity, etc. The Medical Alert would give me more security.

Consider carrying a cell phone and set up the APP called
Fade : fall alert
It works great in the situation you describe.
It can be set up to detect a fall,
you must however be carrying the cell phone on your person of course.
It gives an Vocal Alert that a fall may have occurred giving you time to reset alarm if it is not an emergency situation.
If not reset it places a call to emergency numbers you setup , Sends Email and Text message as well.
Records and sends location GPS details.
Then allows for two way communications with the phone number it places a automatic emergency call too.
I use it when out and about when enjoying the great outdoors when walking in nature off the beaten path. So in about your home it should work great.
Set up Skype as well for automatic activation as well between you and him if he wants to to have visual contact if he is that concerned with your situation.

Thank you so much for your response... y2kcrash & Jacsu... I will definitely check out your suggestions. I guess I will also have to check out new cell phones, especially for Seniors 81 yrs old. I doubt if my old Flip phone will work too good with the more new Apps etc.
Like another member said, I don't care for the big Mobile attachments. That's why I hoped Fitbit may have a better idea.

I think this would be a great addition to Fitbit's lineup. My mom wants a Fitbit but she also wants some kind of button to push to call one or more family members if she has an issue. She doesn't want to wear two different monitors. There ARE other alert systems that do this but they don't have the other tracking info that she wants - steps, sleep, stairs and heart rate. I would definitely buy one for her if Fitbit made this!

Yes! It seems that your Mom and I would like and need a safety tracker like this. If you find one , Please let me know.

I love my Fitbit for health tracking, but think I might buy another product for just that reason if Fitbit does mot plan to add this feature. I live alone, have fallen in the past, and am worried about falling again. Your suggestion about the phone app is a good one. However, I do not always carry my phone but always have my Fitbit on.

Apple Watch Series 4 will call 911 from your phone if you fall.

I developed a Fall Monitor App as part of my final year project that did exactly this, it got eventually pulled from the play store because I didn't continue to maintain, I had thousands of users and 4/5 stars from a hundred ratings.
And I have umpteen emails from users from new features, I open sourced it since I could not commit to completing and was hoping somebody might find the code useful. There is still traces of it around if you search for "Fall Monitor"

My algorithms were fairly simple and accurate, just using the phone's accelerometer alone, with the extra sensors such as the altimeter in fitbit, we could make even more accurate algorithms.
I'd love to team up with fitbit to implement this extra functionality, hopefully they contact me on ericcurtin17@gmail.com if they see this.

It would be nice if Fitbit would have a phone alert. Maybe something that would call somebody in case you fall. Especially since the Apple watch apparently has that app.

I was hoping for something even as simple as alerting a FitBit friend that you have fallen. I thought for sure this would already exist. I just bought my mom a FitBit, and am disappointed that something this simple and important hasn't been implemented.

I have the research and implementation written since 2012/2013 but have never been able to get in contact with FitBit about interest in integrating in their products. I should have no problem porting the code to modern FitBit's as I have knowledge of lots of embedded OS's and C/C++/Java technologies.
If anybody in the forum here could help me in trying to highlight this to FitBit with a potential solution and employee to integrate it, I'd appreciate it 🙂
