Flex vs Map My Walk

Why does my Flex not have same miles as MapMyWalk? I walk a little over 5 miles with Map My Walk app on phone but I get home and Fitbit says 4.7 😞 ?

Mapmywalk uses GPS and will be more accurate.

A pedometer only tracks steps and estimates miles based on your stride length. If you set your stride length accurately, a pedometer can be pretty accurate for steady walking, but less accurate for other types of walking.

If you use a GPS in the house, it will understate the miles because it counts the straight line distance between each query of the satellites.

I was having the same issue, but my flex miles were way uner the MMW miles.  I thought I had set my stride right, but I re-measured several times and now both are pretty close.  Try re-measuring your stride several times to see if that is the issue.

Check your stride settings

  • Dashboard
  • Gear Icon / Settings
  • Body Info half way down the page
  • Stride Length and Running Stride Length should be set

The defaults are 0 and 0 unless you have them measured. By my walking and running abilities, I walk 2' 0" and run 4' 0".
