It's around 5 miles of walking depending on your stride. It is what a lot of places suggest to keep as goal if you want to be active. But really, you should just try it out and see how many steps you take and if you feel you need to be challenged, set your goal accordingly.

The first person who replied is right, but don't worry - unless you are absolutely sedentary, you'll knock out a lot of those steps throughout the day without even noticing. Try wearing the FitBit for one or two "normal" days to see what it records. Remember, if you have other exercise activities, steps might not be the best measure for you to set your goals by. Try looking at the other "Tiles" on your dashboard. Why not set a certain number of "very active minutes" as your goal, or a certain number of calories burned? Remember, if you log in time spent swimming or biking these won't count toward your steps, but will certainly contribute to your fitness!
