Goals for an oldl guy

Hello all.....I'm thinking that I'm probably not your typical FitBit user.

You see, I'm 72 years old and although I'm not really sick or anything, I am about 30 pounds over weight and I'm not moving like I should be.

My kids gave me a FitBit to try to encourage me to get up and get moving.   In my younger years I was very active and actually pretty skinny but it seems those days are gone.

I'm six feet one inch tall and I weigh, as of this morning 240 pounds.

I've had my FitBit on and really the most steps I seem to walk at a time are around 5K per day.   Some days 1/2 of that.

That's not near enough.

I am thinking that I need to be walking at least 10K per day.   I have the time as I'm retired but I just need the ambition/motivation.

It's easy now....I'm sitting here after a nice supper thinking that walking everyday would be fun and productive but alas, I usually find an excuse not to each day.

So, I was thinking that maybe there's a group of my peers on here that might be going through a similar problem and would like to encourage each other.   Hold each other accountable.

Anyway, its good to be here and if anyone has any ideas, I'd be most grateful to hear them.

Thanks

Jim

Good on you Jim! My best advice is to create a new habit. Two ten minute walks twice a day may be more manageable than a 20 minute walk. As you get motivated, challenge yourself to be better every day. It adds up and is worth the time and effort. You can do it! Pick a time, set an alarm and follow through.
