OK, you know you made some foolish promises to yourself in January and now you are trying to pretend that never happened, right? Well, one fourth of 2018 has come and gone. It is April now and with a nod toward the foolishness in all of us, it’s time for a reset — maybe with some more realistic goals going forward 🙂
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges has been to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you use set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

BIG day yesterday. Not just the walking but in my second rehab workout on the new plan found my working weight for 4 of the big 5 lifts. I haven't added deadlift yet, will start a modified deadlift next week. This plan is definitely more effective than the old plan. And more interesting
It is good to feel muscle soreness again. It is sad to see muscle soreness at 10-30% of my former working weight.
There is a limited amount I can do at home before I need to join a gym again. Part of me wants to join now because it's just easier to do it with barbells and a powerstation than at home. But I need to see if I can do this without aggravating things before I shell out the. But I would like to get on a rowing machine again, with my foot continuing to be a pisser, it may be the only way I can get HIIT - or even into the cardio zone at all.
@Jotex- spring has sprung here in a big way. But we might still have more winter rain. You never know in Oregon.
My son's team won their first scrimmage game last night and didn't even know it. My son pitched the last inning and struggled and thought he had given up the lead. Was impressed that he was very upbeat about it. He walked 3 times in 3 at bats. The joys of being a very short left hander. I think he walks more than the rest of his team combined.

@Ennay — I think it was the dollar signs in your post. I got an error message to correct it before it would post. Something about invalid html.

@Ennay @Jotex well that is really weird! It must have been posted for the email to go to Jotex. How very strange!
22 April looks like Im going to get in with my step goal, but I am not sure I will get the 10,000 average I was after!

I managed to slightly injure my back on Mar 31. No surprise really. I lifted for an hour and forty-minutes, steam cleaned the carpet in four rooms, jogged about three miles and spent an hour moving landscaping rocks from the front to a path I was making to the garden.
My philosophy is if something critical hurts even a tiny bit, I rest until it's better. It's better now.
So, I got my four showers. (I hope you didn't think I meant mine. I mean it rained four times.)
And, I went from 166 to 159.2 pounds without significant exercise. I'm in no rush, but according to all the info I have, I should weigh 152 pounds, so I'll continue the downward trend.

FISTF — fact is stranger than fiction! Well, I don’t know what happened — maybe you chose a symbol on your keyboard that the online text box couldn’t post it in proper html. I could not paste and then post your comment until I had deleted the two dollar signs. If you wtite ne your email, I’ll forward it to you. @Jotex- oh I see where the dollar signs were. I did have them. But it posted twice and I never got an error or an email. I remember the confirmation of successful post because I had changed the color of completed goals and I was checking to see if I liked the look better. It's just weird.

@WendyB- my pre-new year's resolution last year was to be more social. I spent too many years looking after my mother at the expense of my social life. As she got worse it was just too much to make sure she was looked after so I could go out (it was challenging enough to travel for work). I've been making a point to accept invitations when possible, and issue a few of my own.
Oh, and because of this I'm going to a murder mystery dinner next weekend.

@Ennay- an occasional rest day isn't a bad thing. It's only a big deal if you have too many of them in a row.

@Jotex- we are having a very late spring here in my part of Canada. The weather finally got above 10C today and it's to be 17C tomorrow. I still have piles of snow around though from last weekend which was a combination ice storm followed by a lot of snow. I'm getting a little antsy to get outside and work in the garden myself.

So, my goal was 10,000 steps a day each day (starting with one already missing for the month).
So far, so good: 21/22 days
I haven't quite decided what to add for next month. I feel I need to work on aerobic stamina (rowing, elliptical, etc.) but my first love is going back to strength training. I might do a combination... lift 3 days and work on something else the other days. I also have a reasonably new cable driven system so I might work with that before going back to the free weights. I'm still not 100% recovered from the cough/cold, but I'm not the only person who suffered with this around here this winter.
