I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.
Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.
My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!
What do you do to get your extra steps in?

I step with the Leslie Sansone walking tapes in addition to walking 20,000 steps most mornings on the treadmill - even had a 75,000 step day! Love powerwalking outside too! Today it will be walking at the mall!

We Zumba at the house here too - the instructor comes right to the house for a party of 10. 🙂 You can get about 6,000 or so steps for about an hour!

I am going to try the mini trampoline - I just worry about falling off of it 🙂 I will give it a try though!

Today I will go and check it out at Sports Authority - my friend used to swear by her mini trampoline - she loved it!

You are gonna try the mini tramp or the Zumba class? I am confused.
I own a mini tramp. I don't use it regularly but I do like it. I just jump on it so far, no workouts. I never thought of using it for the purpose of step count. I would think that it would make for a step count that's not the most accurate, due to all that jiggling.
If I knew that I coulf find a Zumba workout that would modify for my shoulder problems, I might go for it. The idea of Zumba appeals to me but right now I am in PT for a frozen shoulder. I tried Zumba earlier this year and found it really hurt with the shoulder.

I thought I would be too clumsy, too, because I lose balance easily. One thing that helped is that we have a small entryway area. There is just barely enough room for the tramp, but this means it's right next to the door. So, if I need to have something to help steady me, I can place my hand against the door.
Some of the tramps, even the mini tramps, come with handle bars to help one maintain balance. I don't know if it is an accessory a person could be separately. Might be worth investigating.

I will do that. I think it will really help and less impact on your legs when they are sore sometimes.
