How do you get those extra steps in?

I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.

 

Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.

 

My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving! 

 

What do you do to get your extra steps in?

Ali, agreed or to hear someone say "You look like your losing weight" or for those jeans to fit looser. Loving it!!!!!! I like the way I feel when I eat better and excercise. Keep Stepping!

Just realized that since I added more stairs to my daily walking I have climbed 7.5 miles up!! Wow!! Now that's motivating me. Bonus is that since these flights are all between my basement and ground floor I had to shampoo the carpet and touch up the paint in the basement since I was looking at it 100 times a day. Yay.

So this morning I decided I needed a coffee before meeting any goals. Made a nice latte, sat down with my tablet to catch up on the Fitbit news and spilled the darned coffee all over floor and carpet. Cleaned up, made another and promptly did the same thing. Lesson learned. At least one goal met before coffee!! Ali

@Zee Been doing my Leslie Sansone tapes this am - giving the treadmill a rest until this afternoon!  Already have 12,737 steps and 5.44 miles!  Rocking n rolling!  I do 20,000 steps on the weekdays when I work - so yesterday was the Winter Festival Downtown and got quite a few snow steps - today it is snowing once again - so I will get snow steps later 🙂

This morning I added a few more steps on either end of the staircase I climb and I managed to get to 10,000 steps while getting the 100 flights. Didn't take much more effort and all at very active minutes. As it is icy today going to do Leslie Sansone video later instead of walk. Happy Sunday folks.

When I started walking seriously in October 2012 I made a goal to walk virtually across Canada. I have made it so far from Vancouver on the west coast to Dryden, Ontario, about 1/2 way. I look up the towns and cities I pass on Google Earth and read about various places. Learning my geography too. Keeps me going!! Ali

Great idea to map our distances! I decided to map mine along US64, starting at the NC-TN border and traveling east to the beach. Began on Jan 25. I wonder when I will arrive at Nag's Head?
