I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.
Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.
My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!
What do you do to get your extra steps in?
1 lap around my house is 50 steps LOL I had surgery not long ago so I'm not walking much (just upped my daily goal to 2700 steps) and I have a sedintary job at home, but, I will take as many steps around my house as I need to to hit my goal.
I am really fotunate that I work in my house, so I have started a 15 minute walk on the treadmill at the top of every hour. Just started it yesterday, been on Fitbit for a week. Looking forward to getting back in shape and maybe meeting some friends with like goals.
I kill two birds with one stone: I work on the weakest part of my audition (I love musical theater) and my weakest part is by far dance. So I use that as my workout. I also take my dog for a walk (we could both use some fresh air once in a while), plus I work with kids. So more often than not, I kill two birds with one stone!
I also know of a lady who did the same thing. She would kill two birds with one stone and get her chores done at the same time by doing her laudry. But, instead of taking all her clothes together in one basket, she would fold something on the couch and then walk down to her laundry room and put it in her laundry basket. Lather, rinse, repeat, until the whole load was done and she would have to put the clothes away.

one cruise ship at a time!Ha ha, i've done that too - the pacing around the house; near the end of the day if i still haven't met my goal. The best is brisk walking outside but it's not always practical, or safe at night. s
40,000 steps! That's insane. Or maybe a bit obsessive, don't you think? Unless you are consuming a lot of calories, you must have lost a lot of weight; am i right?
Hi I'm new to Fitbit just got my Charge HR today set it up but have yet to take it out for a test walk. I started walking again around 3 weeks ago. My aim is to improve my fitness and reduce my weight.
When I go to the supermarket I leave my car and walk down the canal into town and back. It's smack on 2 miles each way so I can get 4 miles in before I head home.
After work I often leave my car walk to the local arboretum and walk around it. By leaving my car at work I get another 1500 steps in there and back.
My other walk is to my local playing fields. It's 3 miles there and back and excatly 1 mile around the perimeter of the playing field 4 miles in total. on the weekends I sneak another lap of the playing field in because I'm not that active for the rest of the day.
much like everyone else.. I find reasons to park further away.. walk to things I used to drive too (which is sometimes very time consuming - but awesome) I make time early in the morning and late at night to run and workout..
Love the community on FitBit.. So many great people with the same mentality as me when it comes to fitness!
Well, pls start stepping--I did about 19,000 yesterday. I am aiming to go over 19,000 today--right now I am at 6,477 and it is about 2:50pm.....Lol...make sure you have your Fitbit with you...
I have a desk job as well. I'm usually pretty good about getting in at least 10k steps, but if it's an hour or two before bed time and I'm down a couple thousand steps, I will make the rounds by walking all the hallways and stairwells in my apartment complex until I hit my goal.
i am realy struggling to get my daily steps, I have fibromyalgia, chronic pain and fatigue syndrome and find it hard to keep my energy levels up. any adice from anyone who maybe suffers the same would be great,
Today I was struggling to hit my steps goal 14,000, my activity gaol 30 mins, my floors goal 10 floors and I had over shot my food intake by 600 calories. I walked up and down my stairs in my house for 20 minuties my two cats thought I was going mad but it took all my goals to where they should be and raised my floors to 35 my best ever.
I know that feeling. I have climbed my stairs at 10 pm just to meet my goal. And I found myself sending a card to a friend just so I would walk to the Mailbox unit to get extra steps. I might as well be productive while gaining extra steps.
