I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.
Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.
My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!
What do you do to get your extra steps in?

Thanks Colin and Zee! I think I will do the same - just accept what the tracker says and know that I probably have a few more acitive minutes in there. (Maybe this will "trick" me into reaching my goal a little faster. 🙂 ).

Thanks! I will! My goal is to be down 15-20 lbs. by Mothers Day (I'm in that group on another thread). I've only had my fitbit for a week and a half, but so far it is really motivating me!

Thanks! I have no doubt you'll reach yours too! I've sort of set those numbers as a guideline but am going to go a little more on how I look and feel. I tend to get to wrapped up in the number on the scale and get frustrated if it doesn't move fast enough. 🙂 Cheers!

I wear my Fitbit One on my bra strap on my left hand side of my body. Never falls off - put it all the way down until you can go no further - never have had a problem falling off 🙂

Zee I have zumbaed for two years straight and never lost a pound - but when I started walking on the treadmill the weight melted off - I feel it's because of the very active minutes that I get - but that's just me. Remember at 3.7 - I don't get active minutes but at 3.8 I get VAM - all the way - just about for every minute I am on the treadmill! We are walking right now! It's 4:00 a.m. - ready to get those steps in before work 🙂

Hi Jabrat, I miss you. I hope all is well. I've got something to run past you. In some of my Zumba classes my calories burned seem to be a lot lower than others using trackers other than the fitbit, why do you think that is? I am a lot higher energy and move twice as much as some of my classmates that report a higher calorie burn. Did you watch the Superbowl?

Some years ago I stoped smoking (for more than 6 years). My office on 5 floor. To gain steps I make take a break every 45 to 60 minutes and go down and up those flights. I gain steps and exercise and not to forget a break and dynamic motion. And all will the blessing from my boss!
