How do you get those extra steps in?

I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.

Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.

My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!

What do you do to get your extra steps in?

Just kept walking Zee. Poor little dog looked at me and said "again"?? He is getting in shape too. Countdown to vacation. Making up for what I know I won't do then.

You know, if I do just one more lap ... and if I go the longer way ... it all adds up!

Absolutely Papa G, I am so exhausted today, I've been working out 7 days a week. I need my steps so it's off to Zumba Class after work, I've got to get those 10K steps in. Keep Stepping my Fitbit friend!

I am a bit obsessed with my Fitbit One and I love watching the numbers rise.

As well as being really active generally, I take any chance to boost the numbers!  The hand dryer at work in the ladies is quite slow, and I walk on the spot while washing and then drying my hands. I walk around whilst on the phone at work (portable phone is a brilliant invention!).

Our nearest supermarket is only half a mile from us and I often walk there for bits of shopping, round the store and back again gives me well over a mile.

Any excuse to up the steps and up the activity time!

Oddities of reaching goal on a rare snow day here - pacing house while watching Martha Stewart baking some impossibly delicious pies and tarts. Keep walking. Don't even think of pie. Ha ha. Just keep moving.

I'm lucky enough to have a restroom right down the hall from my office, but in order to get more steps, I choose to use the restroom in another wing of the building.  cannot wait until this snow is gone, so I can go outdoors during my lunch break and really rack up the steps!!

Still snowing here on the west coast so think I will see what personal records I can shatter pacing my house today. First goals met - here comes a new badge. I can feel it. Happy Sunday everyone. Keep moving.

Just realized that if I do just over 15,000 more steps today I will have logged 2 million steps since Nov.29 when I got my Fitbit. Talk about inspiring!! Keep moving.

I have a game for the Wii called Walk It Out --- you earn a point for each step and can buy things to decorate a very large island (trees, buildings, etc.). I've lost over 50 pounds with that game! Now I play it when I'm short on steps --- and I play it on my mini trampoline. 🙂
