How do you get those extra steps in?

I live about four miles from my workplace and although I haven't yet walked all four miles to or from work, there are a few games I play during the week to increase my stepcount.

Some days I'll take the hillier, windier, unnecessarily long route to BART (San Francisco's heavy-rail rapid transit system). Almost always, I forgo the escalator for the stairs. Today, that act alone added 5 flights of stairs and over 250 steps to my morning journey.

My other favorite "cheat" is high stepping in place. Sure, I may look a little odd bouncing up and down while typing at my makeshift standing desk, but it feels good to keep the blood flowing and the legs moving!

What do you do to get your extra steps in?

Phiyk, let me know what you think about Leslie Sansone, I did her 5 mile workout this morning and whenever they did something other than "walk" I jogged in place. I racked up some steps. Keep Moving, let us know how we can help.

Did a bit of a walk run thing again this morning, covered 1.72miles of which 0.62 miles was sort of, kind of, slow ploddy running!  Feeling much better in myself now I know I can cope with it and more importantly my knees don't have injuries long term.  My shins still have swelling and visible bruising and are painful so I can only do 30sec-1min at a time and then walk again, but hey it is improving woohoo!!!

Keep stepping you, I am currently 11th in my friend list and you are 2nd and my target to beat 🙂 thanks!

How long (minutes?) and how many steps did it take for the duration of Zumba?  Just curious...

Hi jayfk, I've only just started with Zumba on the Wii and based on a moderate 21 minute class I've worked out it was about 3,300 steps. Hope this helps Smiley Happy

Awesome! Phiyk, I do Zumba about 7 times times a week at thet gym I average 7 to 8 thousand steps per class, but those classes are very high intensity. I am literally dripping sweat when I leave. Zumba is great for getting those steps in.

Zumba loving friends - just read this morning in Chatelaine (Canadian) magazine. "Zumba just got a ringing endorsement from Danish researchers. It's one of the best fat blasters out there and, surprisingly, is an amazing bone builder! A 12 week study asked women to Zumba, play soccer or relax for an hour two or three times per week. Those who got their groove on not only lost more fat - they also increased their levels of the bone strengthening protein osteocalcium. Party on!" And it's fun. So Zumba on friends. Keep moving.

I work in an office. When I put my lunch in the microwave to heat up, instead of standing there in the kitchen waiting, I walk the halls. 300-500 extra steps, easy!

Hi Ali, I like the sound of that! I'm getting used to all of the moves and making the class longer. It's really quite enjoysble. PB Addict, when I'm brushing my teeth with my electric toothbrush I fit in as many steps as I can until the timer runs out!

Phiyk, good deal I do the same thing when brushing my teeth as well. We have to take those steps everywhere and any time that we can. How have things been for you, I hadn't checked in with you lately.
