The MAYhem step challenge is nearly over so it’s time to start thinking about next month. Maybe some JUMPING JACKS spread through your June walks/runs?
How It Works:
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges has been to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

June 28
- 11,000 steps (daily average) - 19/30
- 900 Jumping Jacks 30 x 30 days - 28/30
- Weights — 12/30 days - 10/12
- Lose 2 kilos (4.4 pounds) [CW 66.8 kg] — I’ll only report this end month)
Managed to get all my steps in today plus a few thousand more. Only had a couple of ‘incidents’ with sudden pain, and the pain was not as intense. I think I have a chance to meet almost all my goals this month ... except the weight loss. 🤭

My gosh @Baltoscott!!! Sorry! At least you remembered where it was! How late were you to wherever you were going?
Still thinking of a name for July... 🤔

I was so out of whack with sleep but got over 11h last night (this is insane for me without doing it in two shots. Had lunch with a friend, had more than an hour drive to get there (and then the same back). We started late so it was almost 5pm when I got home. Did a few things, made up for steps (although I did 5k before leaving for lunch).
Today I was playing catch up because I didn't get out of bed until almost noon. Did shopping so I can stay out of the stores on the holiday weekend. Sunday is July 1st (Canada Day) and most companies are closed. Hit and miss on other stores. We have a heat warnings for the next few days 30-33C actual but up to 42C (108F for our US members). I'm going to set the alarm for just before 8am tomorrow though and do a quick cut on the back grass. I want to work on weeding the back, which I can manage with quick dips in the pool in between. It's still not clean, which is driving my nuts. I think I'm not vacuuming slowly enough and this pushes debris up into the water (so then I can't see and have to wait for it to settle down). It's better each time, but annoying.
@GershonSurgeand @Jotex - I do seem to be flipping back and forth between tasks a lot recently. It means nothing gets done. If I can take the weather over the weekend I'm going to clean up the back. If it ends up raining Sun/Mon I'll come back inside and work.
Oh, and @Jotex - you can add steps if you want to. I'm giving the quick computer steps - go to the dashboard, then logs. Choose activities and scroll down to the bottom - type in walk, then add in the time and pick steps under distance. It can be useful for people who maybe tap too much when driving, or I've been told that riding a motorcycle adds steps. In that case you pick driving as the activity and it will remove any steps.

hmm, 12 on Tuesday, 8.4 on wednesday, 17.5 yesterday....and now i realize I haven't charged my fitbit since friday night. So I may not get many steps today. I was going to walk early this morning, but am charging my fitbit instead. (and I probably wasnt going to walk early really)
June goals so I can find them again:
Old steps goal - 13.5K x 30 - 405000 New goal 13.5x23 +55816 = 366316 - round up to 367000
Old burn goal - 2700 x 30 - 81000 New goal 2700 x23 +16930 = 79030- round up to 79,100

I think many Fitbitters are discovering that striving for an ever increasing number of steps is interfering with the rest of their life. We don't see many posts about parking far from the store, etc., to increase the step count. That's why I changed my approach to make my steps incidental to work getting done. Surprisingly, I'm averaging just under 15,000 steps a day now.

You may have a very good point @GershonSurge. I have discovered that comparing my step count to 'friends' is a motivating factor to keep going, and hence, increasing my count. BUT, you are right in my case that it has diverted me from attending to other health issues. Next month I will try for a more balanced approach. Thanks!

Good luck @Ennay! I just did the math, and realized that I would need to do another 6461 steps today (only 2 hr 15 min left!) to meet my 11,000 steps/day average for the month. I think I will have to default.... More later. 🙂

900 JUMPING JUNE JACKS (a set of 30/day) | 30/30 |
15K steps/day | 29/30 |
1 pushup/day | 30/30 |
16 weight-lifting days | 15/16 |
50 floors or more for 20 days | 20/20 |
Sleep 6+ hours 12 days or more during the month | 6/12 |
One day short on both the step and weight-lifting goals, but that was because of my insane 80 mile bike ride in 90+ heat, so I feel pretty good about all the July goals except the sleep goals.
@GershonSurge -- I agree that step goals can get out of control in Fitbit world. Mine are much lower than they were at one time, and most of my "steps" are built into my day through bike commuting or walking to get to a lot of the places I need to go.
On the other hand, the big thing that fitbits are good at is counting all those steps that come outside the 30-90 minutes of planned exercise I do most days, and I get a kick out of finding ways to keep my movement up all day long and increase the total that way without dedicating hours to running.
