Jumping January 2018 Step Challenge

Welcome to 2018.  It is a new year, and time to get another monthly challenge underway

How It Works:

The primary purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for January 2018 (though as you will see below, other goals for the month are just fine). This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

The optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 31 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I will have to look into the battery powered glove liners, my fingers and toes are always the first to "go" cold. Down parka, 2 inside layers, flannel lined jeans keep the body warm. Let us know how the liners work.

Sounds like the east coast is in for a snow storm by weeks end, stay safe.

Back in the days I used to carry my brother to school so he wouldn't wear out the shoes he was going to hand down to me, I'd put some baked potatoes in my pockets on cold days.

Thanks for the last 30 minutes I just spent looking up “we were so poor ...” skits.

Wow, I really do not know where that last paragraph came from. Don't have a
brother, and we were not what you would call poor.

Ok so here is my update:

My cold is FINALLY shaken!  Now I'm just working on getting my steps back up to 10K.  Currently, I am somewhere around 5-6K so not bad overall.  As for a yearlong goal, I am going back to school and plan to have my certification by the end of the year!  I also want to walk 2,018 miles in the year 2018!  I am somewhere around 10 miles so far.

I love the 2018 miles in 2018! Glad you are feeling better @DramaQueenDiva

My update:

10K a day -- 3/31 (average. Day 2 I was under, but made up for it yesterday)

Zero processed food --  3/31 -- Added benefit, down 2.5 pounds in 3 days. Only 2 more to be back to pre-holiday weight. This is not my focus, but it is cool to see the quick recovery.

No grain or dairy for first 14 days -- 3/31

The weather was crazy this morning.  Not that much snow in Baltimore, but some, and very windy.  Instead of riding my bike I actually drove to the gym so I would have a shot at getting my steps in.  Also ran through the mostly body weight Twelve Days of Christmas challenge that some of you did last month.  Anyway, still on track. Woohoo!

I hope I can still join this challenge, although it's already the 4th of January (or to be exact, the 5th, since here in Europe it's already after midnight).

My goals for this month:

8000 steps (my Charge2 underestimates my stepcount by about 20%, so when it says 8000, it's around 10K)

5 floors.

Meditate for at least 10 minutes

At the end of each week, I'll review my goals to see if they were realistic, and adjust them if needed.

Until today

8000 steps: 4/7 (4/31)

5 floors 4/7 (4/31)

Meditation 4/7 (4/31)

I've a week off from work, which makes it easier to get my steps in.  And thanks to a workweek hustle (OK, not a workweek for me Smiley Tongue), I'm motivated to walk/run just a little bit more...

So I forgot to wear my tracker yesterday but I'm sure I had walked the 5k steps because my activities all this week has been the same. So do you think I should count it or not? If i count it I'm 4/31 if not then 3/31.

I hate when I forget to wear my tracker — but for this challenge even if your Fitbit didn’t see them, those steps count.
