Welcome to 2018. It is a new year, and time to get another monthly challenge underway
How It Works:
The primary purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for January 2018 (though as you will see below, other goals for the month are just fine). This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.
Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.
Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.
The optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 31 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I have been wondering about you. How does a Texas gal find herself in Switzerland? Are you enjoying it? Do many people seem to have Fitbits there? (I sometimes see them on wrists in the UK, but I think they are a lot more common in the US).
Thanks @Julia_G! I know, right!?! I would have 6 more fitbit floors than the 7 I did get (Lucky 13!). I figure I walked at least 8,000, but only 6,000+ on my fitbit. Nevermind.
I met my husband, a Swiss, while I was living in Israel. He proposed, I accepted, and we married in Bern almost 32 years ago. I am still Texan, but also Swiss. We live in a global village - look at this group?! A lot of people here have step counters, all makes, including fitbit. I thought about the iWatch, but decided I didn’t need all the distractions when I walk.

So I had today off, and the weather was really nice here in Ft. Myers FL, so I borrowed a bike from my host and headed for Capitva Island. Wound up riding 46 miles.

Still didn’t feel great today, but I pushed myself to work out. Couldn’t make myself do more stairs, though. Sometimes you just gotta say, “That’s how it is today. Tomorrow will be a new day.”

@Jotex, never mind! We all still have days like that... I have a tendency to give up when I have a bad day, and one bad day follows another... (sub text: I've already failed, so now why bother?). Much better to follow your excellent example and do a reset and start over.
Meanwhile, I've been hanging in there with my step goal every day since I decided the other goals weren't going to make it... So
11573/10k today
10785/10k yesterday
10,633 / 10k Saturday
and I already posted my big step day on Friday. I'm still hoping to get back to running and regular weight routines, but it didn't happen this month...

Nearly done for January. Should I start one for February or does everyone want to take a month off?

Thanks @Julia_G. Made me feel better! You can be proud 🏆 of your step count! Hoping for warmer, better-for-running weather in your neck of the woods!
@Baltoscott - thanks for the offer of a new challenge. I am mixed... A break sounds good, but I also agree with @WendyB that it keeps me going, and I like @GershonSurge‘s affirmative answer. I guess Fourteen Days of February could be a compromise?! 😇

31 January Phew! The month is over! I am verh impressed with how I went. I missed the step goal one day (with good reasons!) And met all the rest. Pat on the back for me!
If you do one for February @Baltoscott I will modify my goals a bit as I was to slack off sometimes. I felt always ON over January. I really want a day or two of slovenly self indulgence 🤣

1 plank, plus 3 sets of curls @ 10 lbs, 3 sets of upright rows.

I’ll set up a February monthly challenge later today. @Jotex — I kind of like the idea of Fourteen Days in February like the Twelve Days of Christmas I did last month, but I don’t have the energy to develop anything creative at the moment (I copied Twelve Days from my gym at work), so maybe when setting up the monthly goals borrow from @NellyG and what others have done this month and build in some days off for Feb goals.

Hi @Baltoscott - I guess what I kind of sort of had in mind was, we each set our goals (like January) and agree to meet them at least fourteen (of 28) days of the month. IOW (in other words), if we choose, we can do them every other day, or every day every other week (1 week on, 1 week off). But it was just a silly idea. Then there's February 14th! Maybe 'do something special for someone' bonus challenge. Crazy thoughts, I know.... 🙂
