Jumping January 2018 Step Challenge

Welcome to 2018.  It is a new year, and time to get another monthly challenge underway

 

How It Works:

The primary purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for January 2018 (though as you will see below, other goals for the month are just fine). This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

The optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 31 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@Jotex, I love it!  I'm travelling for almost all of Feb, but hope to get some good walking in most days.  I definitely won't be posting most days (though that is nothing new...)

 

As for January, today was also a win: 126622 / 10k

 

So I mostly made my steps, and I mostly didn't make any other goals.  Oh well...

January Challenge 10-Day Reboot

Day 10/10

I didn’t manage my goals every day, edpecially steps and floors. But my January average exceeded my daily goals! 

Total steps —  266,291 = daily average 8,590

Total floors — 271 = daily average 8.74

Whoop!!!  

 

Thinking about adding lower calorie count, or lower carb % to my next goals. Maybe once a week do something different for FUN {a lot of scope for the imagination on that one!). 🙃

Goal: 25,000 steps 17 times. (Raised a couple times.)

Accomplished 25,000 steps 27 times. Finished with a streak of 7 days.

 

There is a story behind this that gives me a special reason to celebrate. Look at December:

Starting in June, I kept getting more tired every day. It started with either passing out or getting knocked out in a fall in the bathroom. My head felt funny after that, so I started limiting my running. Every day, I needed more and more sleep until I was sleeping almost all day. Finally, on December 12th, I went to the emergency room.

 

I had an infection somewhere, but they couldn't figure out where. Because of some blood tests they did a biopsy of my liver on the 15th to see if it was infected. By then, the infection, wherever it was, had cleared, and I felt ok. They found neuroendocrine cancer in my liver. This is NOT the same as liver cancer. This type of cancer acts as an endocrine gland and can randomly release hormones. These symptoms can be easily controlled.

 

I now know I had the first symptoms of the cancer in 2013. I thought it was my transverse colon. I didn't realize part of the liver was just below the sternum and rested on top of the large colon. I became a vegetarian to treat it and started Dr. McDougall's whole food plant based diet in 2014. This basically arrested the cancer or maybe shrunk it. The cancer was so small that they had trouble getting any cells. They can't operate because it doesn't work for this type of cancer. They also can't do chemo or radiation. The good news is it won't grow as long as I stay on a strict whole food plant based diet.

 

While I was in the hospital I got edema in my arms and legs as a side effect to a drug. When I got home, my feet were so big, I could barely put on my shoes. I walked/ran anyway even though every step hurt. Slowly my feet got better. My left hand is still sensitive to the cold. The day I did 40,000 steps was the first day I could kind of tie my shoes.

 

The reason I'm walking so much is there are better outcomes for people with cancer who exercise a lot. 

 

I found out the same big name doctors that have been reversing heart disease since 1971 with a whole food plant based diet are having the same results since 1980 with all kinds of cancer except pancreatic. Much of it in late stages. The studies have been published, but nobody pays attention. It takes STRICT adherence to the way of eating, including no vegetable oils. They accelerate cancer. 

 

Virtually everyone has cancer. They just don't know it yet. Neuroendocrine cancer typically takes about 30 years to be detectible.

Pretty good effort for Jumping January.  Wound up having a few glasses of wine for dinner tonight when we went out to a French restaurant with some Baltimore friends who winter here in Ft Myers like my wife’s boss (our host this week).  Nice time out and 28/31 days dry is a win for the month.

@GershonSurgeWow what a story. You had quite the year for sure.

 

I did have Cancer 10 or more years ago. I did have radiation and I'm still paying the price. It keeps eating at my bones. Every 5 years something happens to my hip area because of it.

Wow yes, everyone went really well. I love the way of averaging to meet your goals lol. I met my step goal that way. Great to read everyones results and @GershonSurge story. I bit of an awful time, but sounds like you are doing well now. I admire your determination and perseverance.  Well done everyone!

My goals:                                              

11 k steps a day     30 floors    5 miles      5 push ups    1 plank, plus 3 sets of curls @ 10 lbs, 3 sets of upright rows.   

 

Final January, finished yesterday with 16.7 k steps, 38 floors, 7.74 miles

29/31 on all goals except floors, 26/31.
