Jumping January 2018 Step Challenge

Welcome to 2018.  It is a new year, and time to get another monthly challenge underway

How It Works:

The primary purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for January 2018 (though as you will see below, other goals for the month are just fine). This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

The optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 31 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

This includes 8,000+ steps, 5 fitbit floors, workout - which some days means exercises with my 10-kg kettleball (new!) instead of curls and plank, and read 5+ min of a non-digital text.

I just found this forum this morning. I will join a February Challenge when I see it up. I started on Jan 21st doing 10k a day, and have been doing an average over that - every day. Before that, getting back into the groove with my new Surge 2, I did a week of 5k steps a day. I would like to do this kind of challenge every month this year and work to better my 2017 steps.

Glad I counted correctly on my weight lifting days.  Goal for the month met.  Taking next week off from weights because of travel and because my joints need a breather 🙂

Well, done @WendyB , @NellyG @Baltoscott @Jotex @GershonSurge and others in keeping going all the way through this dreary month!

I keep claiming busy-ness and falling behind... Well, I am busy.  I am sewing clothes for the flower girls and page boys for my son's wedding in April, and they didn't like the colour for the boys so I had to start over!  And then there are the hundreds of paper flowers I am making for the tables...  If there were a challenge for that, I'd be way ahead

Besides which, I do actually have a job (which I spend a lot of time ignoring -- just cruising until I retire.  They won't fire me now... I know where all the bodies are buried... Only teasing...)

And it doesn't help that it mostly rains and rains...

Enough of the excuses!  Since I last posted I have made all my step goal days except one.  And yesterday (when the sun finally came out -- temporarily) I had my first big step day of 2018 : 35,062!!! (I was a little short, so took a jog around the house to make sure I got that coveted 35k badge)

I am afraid the other goals have fallen by the wayside, so I am really impressed with everyone who's getting their steps AND doing abs, weights, exercise bike, boxing etc!

Today it is back to rain almost all day, but I did just squeeze in 10589 steps.  Now, back to sewing...

Wow @Julia_G -- 35,000 steps!!!??! That's amazing! My hero (or is it heroine?)!!! 🌷

I got busy this morning doing laundry (I have to go down 2 flights of stairs in our Apt bldg to the shared laundry room) and didn't put my Fitbit on until the afternoon. Then did shopping and made homemade salsa. (Yummy!) So am about 2,000 short of my 8,000 step goal for today. Never mind. I can console myself with the salsa. 😋

All other goals on this Reset 6/10th day. Whoop!

Best Answer

@Jotex, you should have had your Fitbit on for those flights of stairs to the laundry room!  Think of the wasted steps...

As for my 35 k steps, I have a couple of friends who like to do some long distance hiking on the trails in the UK.  We did quite a few through the summer, but for one reason or another this is the first time I have had a really long walk since the beginning of November.  We took a walk along one of the canals, which was fun for me, because I used to live on a boat, but it was very muddy and I felt in danger of slip sliding in quite a few times.

Fitbit's GPS was more stingy than the other's calculated.  Mine said about 12.5 miles.  I think the other two used their phones and claimed about 13 and a quarter.  Either way, I was pretty tired, but it was good!

I have been wondering about you.  How does a Texas gal find herself in Switzerland?  Are you enjoying it?  Do many people seem to have Fitbits there?  (I sometimes see them on wrists in the UK, but I think they are a lot more common in the US).
