Jumping January 2018 Step Challenge

Welcome to 2018.  It is a new year, and time to get another monthly challenge underway

How It Works:

The primary purpose of this challenge is to keep track of your daily step goals for January 2018 (though as you will see below, other goals for the month are just fine). This is not a competition to see who can do the most amount of steps, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of 31 for the month can you hit your goal.

Some of you might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and some might have a variable goal throughout the week, for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = 6k steps a day
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for this challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

Optional
3) Post either your constant or variable (anything you want) goal.
4) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved / 31.

The optional items can really be anything. Running, biking, weight lifting, food goals, etc. Some will add a goal that is not daily - ie. wanting to do so many strength training workouts in the month - so you might be aiming for a number that is less than 31 for some goals -- maybe 5, 10, or 15. Really, it's just completely open.

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and decide scale back the number of steps due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your daily step goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Whoops.  Yesterday started out well.  Jane drove to the gym for a swim class and I biked there to meet up so we could head further North to meet some friends for a hike in Baltimore county (knocked out my pull up and push ups before I left the house).  After the hike (which was a little tricky because some of the trails were icy) we all headed to York, PA to check out their central market and get some lunch.  Well, everyone liked the idea going to a local brew pub for lunch and it turns out I'd rather have a beer at a brew pub instead of just iced tea.  :-).

On the plus side, I stopped at one beer and my refills were iced tea -- so none of that, well since I "failed" hitting my goal for the day I might as well go crazy nonsense! Actually, in this case one beer with lunch was just about right, so it wasn't that hard to say no when the waitress asked if I wanted a second.  Looking at my progress on the no drinking in January goal, so far I've had three beers over two out of 20 days.  Not bad for a New Year's resolution.

Just now finished up my steps at 8 pm.  Little too much sitting around watching the football championship games, but pacing around the living room finished it off.  🐵

@WendyB - you are absolutely right about -.2 being a loss! “Every little bit counts!” My weight has slipped in the wrong direction about .5 kg these past 2 weeks or so. 😥

I had.a lot going on last week (hubby in hospital) and was at a conference this weekend; so have lost track of how many days I reached each of my goals. Will restart based on the 10 days left in January. More later.

@Baltoscott - I admire your firm resolution to abstain from alcohol this month. Thanks for being a good role model to follow.

My goal is to walk/jog 25,000 steps 15 times during January. So far, I've accomplished eight times.

I saw the first robins yesterday.

No robins here yet either, but the weather seems almost spring like at 58 F and lots of mud today.

Well managed my 10000 again but it is highly unlikely I'll  manage it today as will be on the road for around 10 hours, so not much time left for steps. Oh well.

Everyone else is doing great. But another beer @Baltoscott! You are a serious disappointment 🤣🤣  Mind you Ive had a few more than 3 beers this month lol.

23 January  Didnt think Id make my 10,000 today and I didnt, but got a respectable 8,000 or so in spite of being in the car for nearly 10 hours (and no, my Ionic doesnt record many false driving steps at all!)

Missed reporting day 2 of my (last 10 days of January) reset, but met all goals yesterday and today.

I don’t have a dog (dogs) but I do feel sometimes the ‘darker forces’ are playing around in the background = hence false readings. 😂

I've met all my step goals since I last posted, and even did my weights, squats and lunges...!  That's a win, especially on the steps, given the disgusting weather.  (Meanwhile I have reset my running goal to zero and will try again in March -- it was too dangerous with all the ice earlier in the month and too grim with all the rain.)

Today is looking not so good on the step front.  I am only just over 7 k and Fitbit is telling me it is time for bed: an Atlantic storm blew in last night bringing strong winds and heavy rain.  Then, just as I was thinking of a walk my friend dropped by.

I've given up counting how many days I have met my goal, but I am still grateful for the challenge, because, even when I don't make my goals, the challenge makes me push myself just a little harder than I would have otherwise.

Thanks, all, for keeping going, and keeping reminding me of my personal goals.  And especially @Jotex, who, like me, needed a half way through January "reset".
