April brought a lot of showers and May will bring more, but also lots of flowers as well as spring wildlife. Excellent reasons to get outside and up your step goals for a month.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

The theme of the photo scavenger hunt this month is to find at least three different kinds of flowers (blooms), three different animals on your daily walks. The more colors and critters the better.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Welsh poppies. When we moved to Shropshire 31 years ago, one thing we'll both always remember was the profusion of these lovely flowers. There are plenty again this year, but the proportion of orange blooms has increased.

The terrace of our apartment is being renovated (new insulation under the stone plates). Since the vast majority of my flowers and plants were there, including those in a wintergarden and a greenhouse, we have had a major project to dismantle and/or move everything to a different location. Hence my daily fitness routine has been interrupted, and with aching muscles, I had a glass of wine at the end of the day more often than planned. At least that’s my story, and I’m sticking to it! 😅 Every now nd then, though, I play hookey from the ‘task’ and paint, because as the old saying goes, “All work and no play makes Jill a dull girl.” 🎨 🖼️ 💜

This shows part of a large area of gorse that got burned (sadly, intentionally, by idiots) earlier this year.
I've been looking every day since late March for any signs of recovery, and spotted these tiny new bristly bright green shoots the other day, growing through the earth straight from the roots. Hooray for Nature!

@jantonini - I'm so sorry to hear about your Peppa. She looks like the queen of the porch in that pic.
Sadly, our cat Kansas passed the Friday before last. He turned 19 last month and had been losing weight for a couple of years. He had been getting weaker and weaker and that Friday morning he lost his footing and slid down the basement steps. Typical cat. He got up like nothing had happened at all and headed for his food dish, but he was dragging one of his hind legs until I picked him up and sorted him out. We were leaving town the next day and didn't want the responsibility to fall to our neighbor, so we called the vet. Fortunately I wasn't working that day so we spent some on the back porch listening to the birds squabble at the feeders. Here he is taking a nap that morning.Kansas

As far as my goals go, Marvelous May Flowers has been a bit of a bust. I didn't post often, gained some weight, and missed most of my goals. On the other hand I got in a few long bike rides, the wife and I went on a road trip with friends one weekend to Delaware and then met up with a couple of others for a week in Savannah, Ga. What a beautiful city. When we got home this past weekend, these huge poppies (oriental/eastern/great scarlet?) were waiting for us. So, other than fitness goals, a pretty good month.

@Baltoscott Thank you so much for your kind words. Losing our dear pets is so difficult. Our house is pretty quiet without our girl. (and our 2 boys we lost a year a part in the last couple years.) Your precious Kansas looks peaceful and I am glad you were with him when he needed you. 💙
