Muck-about March Madness — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

Is it really already the third month of 2021?!?

Vaccines are starting to ramp up, and COVID seems to be waning just a bit!  And while It is surely too early to relax social distancing, the close of winter in the Northern Hemisphere and the end of summer in the Southern Hemisphere means it's is the perfect time to get out of house and muck about.  So go outside and enjoy the weather!!

In the meantime, it is time to commit to another month of health goals.

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt — 3 pictures

March pictures should be a contrast from March 2020. Back then we were all starting to live, or at least read about, lockdowns, 6 foot spacing, and 20 second hand washing; and some of us were even starting to wear masks!!! Whoa!!! How have the people and public places in your area changed since March 2020? Look at your photos from then, and see if it is even possible to recreate the same picture at the same place now. I'm wondering if I will take my first train ride in over a year in March 2021.  Maybe.  What has your year been like?

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I'm up about 7 pounds since this time last year, as COVID started to change the way we live. To turn that trend around I'll add logging my food to my daily goals. Awareness is the first step in building back good habits.

Goals — Muck-about March

6,000+ steps:  5 days

8,000+ steps: 15 days

10,000+ steps: 5 days

12,000+ steps: 5 days

Lose 1½ kg (starting 28.2.21 at 66.3): - 1.5 kg

Eat 1 piece of fruit: 25 days

Photo Challenge: 3 pics

A year ago I weighed1.7 kilos ( = 3.75 lbs) less than today. I gained what I jokingly refer to as my ‘covid kilos’. I want to go back to (close to) that in March and even lower in April.

I didn’t go on vacation this past year, and always slept at home.

10K+ steps: 24 days

11K+ steps: 16 days

12K+ steps: 8 days

total steps 341000

Stretch/Stability work 20 days

I'm not changing the days much because I have at least 4 days this month where I will be driving most of the day.  Kids have not gone to school since 3/13 of last year (actually 3/11 because they were sick the last week of in person school).  I haven't spent more than 2 days a week in the office since then.  Haven't eaten at a restaurant inside or outside since November of 2019 because my husband had a huge work crisis in December of 2019 that had him working 12-15 hour days 7 days a week all of December- February.  Haven't stepped foot in the theatre since 3/7.

Thanks for running this challenge @Baltoscott

Wow, what a year! We've been pretty much locked down since March 1st last year, both of us had health issues. Now we are both healed and got our first vaccination shot last week. Still staying home except for grocery & other necessity shopping, planning on this course of action at least till fall, and beyond?

But, we are now planning a big garden, refreshing the beds, ordering seeds, adding new beds.

March goals:

My goal are pretty much the same. 10 k steps per day, 20 floors, weights, yoga, stretching each day..  Plus trying for 14 of 14 active hours per day.

Feb steps 12,000 per day

Floors - 20 per day

Active hours -- 14 of 14 each day

Exercise weight & yoga & stretching every day

Thanks for the new month @Baltoscott I was away over the weekend so a bit late with my goals! I like the sound of the Photo Challenge and will have to check back to last years photos. I know it was all a big shock last March! Vaccines are just starting in Australia. Mine won't be for a while yet. I am over 65, but healthy.😄

I was just looking through the posts from a year ago to see what photos I posted and my biggest impression was how much I miss @WendyB and her goat photos. My photos were pretty unremarkable, but I'll see what I can do!

@Baltoscott  Thank you for the notification!

With March being a warmer month, I will hopefully be able to get out and get steps (and not end up in the snowy ditches on my road).  I'm keeping the goals fairly similar.

What a crazy first day of March!  The temperature dropped, we had snow squalls, and a crazy wind!  I didn't get nearly as far as I wanted to in steps yesterday, but I got out and got some (despite snow becoming time pellets during that wind lol).

I didn't mean to do so many yesterday, after dinner  I needed a short walk to get to 10K or maybe 11K but it was super nice out.  The wind had died and the stars were out, so I kept walking.  I might be part vampire, if it weren't for uneven sidewalks and skunks I think I prefer walking in the dark whether it is early morning or late evening.
