Nifty November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt
Wow. It’s November. The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.
General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works
The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.
Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”
Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.
Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total
Picture Scavenger Hunt
While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change or inspires the time of year.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week
Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Haven't been sleeping well lately for some unknown reason. I haven't been doing anything differently from what I usually do; but I've missed my sleep goal 4 days in a row now - most recently by just 2 minutes.

Went up 0.1 lbs this week, so my loss for the months is now at -0.3 lbs.
I said on another thread that although I have been trying to lose a little weight I seem to have settled at 160 lbs for the past couple of months, and maybe maintaining is the real accomplishment in the holiday season. Well, game on. My brother-in-law decided to have an early Thanksgiving dinner today because he and his wife are going to Florida later this week to be with another part of the family. Jane and I just got back and I'm feeling pretty full. Though it could have been worse, I guess.
Manage to keep dinner to one full plate, plus seconds on butternut squash and turkey, and a couple of smallish pieces of pie and apple cake for dessert.
Tried to take it easy on appetizers. About a cup of raw carrots and broccoli plus an ounce each of swiss cheese and hard salami.
We've got another Thanksgiving event lined up for Thursday, and a third Friday/Saturday when another couple comes to stay with us for the weekend.
I did get in a couple of bike rides and a trip to the gym today. Feeling like I need another walk right now, though 🙂

That's lots of Turkey @Baltoscott. Glad I only have to deal with one.
My family is all over the place. So it will be us and some friends. I love the after turkey sandwich with cranberry sauce the next day . But after that it will be cut up to go in recipes

Can I join this challenge even though it's already the 19th? I've had a fitbit zip for a long time but haven't used it for a long time. I just got a Charge 2 and love all the stuff it can track! I really need some community for accountability. Please don't judge...I have a very sedentary life and I know that I'm starting with baby steps. Reading some of your goals...oh dear! It'll take me a little bit to work up to that many steps.
Here are my goals for November along with my current status (as of 11/19):
Use the fitbit for 17 days (started last Wednesday, so this will be using it everyday for the rest of the month): 6/17
Get 5,000 steps on 10 days: 0/10
Get 250 steps per hour for 120 hours this month: 20/120

I think I'll have to take a sick leave for swimming this week as I accidently sliced open my hand cutting up brussel sprouts on Monday and as it is quite deep I dont want to risk it in the pool. Very annoying, hurt like crazy and bled everywhere, but seems to be going OK now ☺

Well, I won't hit all 30 days with 10K steps. I had a very lazy weekend and didn't hit 10K on Saturday or Sunday, so that's disappointing, but I might try to get to 20K steps today to kind of make up for it! I'm hoping to stay motivated for the rest of the month, I desperately need to get back into a gym/running routine, so I went to the gym this morning and did almost a 3 mile run on the treadmill. Hoping to keep that up!
