Nifty November Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

 

Wow.  It’s November.  The year is nearly gone, but we’ve still got time for another challenge or two.

 

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.                                
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

 

Picture Scavenger Hunt

While you are out and about getting in your walks/hike/rides this month take a few pics that show the changing seasons in your area, fall (or spring) colors, holiday displays, if you are in a beach area, the boardwalk shutting down or opening up, something that shows change or inspires the time of year.

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

December goals

 

1000 steps week 1 (flu)

2000 week 2

5000 steps as a target, but don't often get that far (use 2 sticks)

Jumping in late in the month, but since my goals haven't changed lately that's not a problem for me. Consistency is getting better, shooting for 100% in December! 

 

As of Nov 26th

 

  1. 10K Steps - 16/30
  2. 15 Runs - 14/15
  3. Lose 4 pounds - 2.9 / 4

Couldn’t make the last 600 steps today, and have (temporarily?!?!) regained some of the weight I’d lost this month. Thanksgiving dinner and all the leftovers have thrown my eating habits off track.

Steps:  + 10,000 steps 20 days of the month - 24/20  Exceeded!!!

Floors:  10 floors daily  - 27/30

My intention was to go to line dance class, and practice in-between. The practice hasn’t happened yet. Maybe tomorrow. But maybe not... I’m also leaving tomorrow (Thurs) to go on vacation. Going to Tenerife! :airplane::beach_with_umbrella:

Here are my goals for November along with my current status (as of the end of the 11/27):

Use the fitbit for 17 days: 14/17

Get 5,000 steps on 10 days:  5/10

Get 250 steps per hour for 120 hours this month: 97/120

 

Well, I'm making baby steps progress.  I should be able to make the 250 steps goal without any difficulty but there are not enough days to make the 10 days with 5,000 steps goal.  Yesterday I had a migraine and physical activity just did not happen.  I am determined to end on a strong note though... so my augmented mini goal is to have 5,000 steps a day for these last 3 days of the month.

I am doing so well this month - so proud of myself.  I dressed very well in warm clothing and walked daily, regardless of the cold winter weather.  With a relaxed mindset, I made walking and swimming at the Y a priority, and I enjoyed it.  Plus I was faithful to track and record everything I ate - even those little nibbles here and there.  So pleased with the results.

Finish STRONG - Get 5,000 steps on November 28, 29 and 30: 1/3 so far so good!

 

I was pacing the house at 11:00 last night for those last 300 steps.

Woke up in pain, could hardly walk. Not the ideal way to start vacation. Thanks to heating pad and meds I made it to Zurich, for early am flight. Haven’t completed my goals, but I got pretty close, all things considered. 

 

Looking forward to Dancing December, though. Pre-DD scavenger hunt shot was taken in the airport corridor.

Raining like crazy here. I dont mind walking in the rain. I love it actually but when the wind is blowing really hard its to hard to walk  with a cane and holding an umbrella. Did get one walk outside in. Will need to do the rest inside today
