OctoberFEST — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

I love October!  The heat of summer is mostly gone, and the icy cold of winter isn’t quite here yet.  It is a GREAT time to get outside and move around.  Plus at least two good festive events — German Beer/bratwurst/sauerkraut — Halloween!

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

@benvegi - I agree with you and @WendyB that the snake has a pretty pattern. But they’re not my favorite creatures. I don’t see rattles on the tail, so not sure it is (was) a rattlesnake. Being a native Texan, when in doubt, assume it’s poisonous! Better safe than sorry. My husband, native Swiss, though, would disagree. He’s had snakes for 45+ years and likes them all. Thankful none of his have been venomous. His current pet, a Royal Python, looks a lot like yours.

This week has been a success so far.

 

My step goal is 6k per day:

  • 9/30- Monday:4,853 steps/ 2.05 miles
  • 10/1- Tuesday: 8,882 steps/ 3.76 miles
  • 10/2- Wednesday: 7,171 steps/ 3.03 miles
  • 10/3- Thursday: 6,415 steps/ 2.71 miles
  • 10/4- Friday: 6512 steps/ 2.9 miles

Then there's my water intake goal: Still needs work, but I'm pushing through:

  • 9/30- Monday:20 oz
  • 10/1- Tuesday: 42 oz
  • 10/2- Wednesday: 16 oz
  • 10/3- Thursday: 40 oz
  • 10/4- Friday: 40 oz

My wall/counter push up goal is solid:

  • 9/30- Monday: 0
  • 10/1- Tuesday: 10
  • 10/2- Wednesday: 10
  • 10/3 -Thursday: 10
  • 10/4- Friday 10

SCAVENGER HUNT: What's strange and also unique about Houston is that although the calendar says its officially Fall, we are always in an extended summer until about the middle of October. So my contribution to this months scavenger hunt is a snapshot of our ever changing weather forecast: this should be fun!

Oh my sounds like a ton of fun, a  Scavenger Hunt, Pictures and Exercise! Rural I am new to the group and have not always been big on 'exercise' and looking to find it a little more extra special and motivating.

Fall days like  Halloween, and our seasonal changes from September to November is unlike any other  your season for me. I love this time of year. I'll try to hit all my goals since I have not been exercising in such a long time.

LOL....that is spot on! Yesterday it was a whopping 97 degrees! I wouldnt be surprised if the pumpkins had an uprising. LOL. Oh and the Astros are holding steady: we have a mid-day game today - so we shall see how they make out.....
