OctoberFEST — Step Challenge and Photo Scavenger Hunt

I love October!  The heat of summer is mostly gone, and the icy cold of winter isn’t quite here yet.  It is a GREAT time to get outside and move around.  Plus at least two good festive events — German Beer/bratwurst/sauerkraut — Halloween!

                                     

How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to encourage you to set and hit your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

 

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

 

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

 

Suggested Posting Format    
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

 

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

Sadly, today I will probably be lacking in steps as well.  I get to go pick up my new(er) car, which means probably a good amount of time with paperwork.  😱

Same goals as the last several months, 20,000+ steps per day, 25 floors.  May do better on the photo challenge this month

 

10/2 steps 23,990, floors 24

10/3 steps 20,485, floors 42

10/4 steps 29,233, floors 137  we rode today, 9.5 miles on horseback

10/5 steps 20,146, floors 26

10/6 steps 29,400, floors 10  rained most of the day, first rain in 7 weeks, got 3.5"

10/7 steps 26,195, floors 31  started getting the big trailer ready for our 5 day trip to horse camp. Leave here tomorrow morning. Probably no wifi or even phone signal till late Sunday.

@Jotex  I'm pretty sure now that the snake is a pygmy rattler.  The appearance of rattleless rattlesnakes has increased in the past decades in the US. Up to 50% may not have them. On the pygmy, the rattles are so small they are hard to see, and many don't have them anymore. We are very careful around snakes to be sure it's not poisonous. We also protect the black racers and who eat other snakes.   I couldn't see a snake in your picture but I sure admired that log!  Would look good on my lathe.

I've done something to injure myself I think or my PT and myself went overboard today!

New PT and boy! She's a hard task master! Can barely walk and my hips hurt like hell!

Not sure this fits this month’s scavenger hunt criteria, but it does show the Swiss autumn has settled. This was from the window of the classroom where I was teaching for a colleague in Luzern. The foreground is the main train station there.

Decided to take it easy today and therefore have met only 2 of my daily targets which is to have a 500 calorie deficit and a fast. Just about with 507!

Back at the gym tomorrow and we'll see!

@Baltoscott  That dinosaur is a clever idea!

@WendyB  I've noticed that there aren't many people who have decorations up.  Maybe it's still kind of early?  I swore that there was usually more decorations up by now for Halloween.  I did see someone putting up Christmas decorations though.  I'll have to go walk the neighborhood down the road from me and see if I can find anything as cute as that dinosaur!

I'm also wondering if the lack of decorations has to do with lack of Children in the neighborhood as well. All of the ones here have grown up and moved away. Kids quit coming by at Halloween about 3 years ago.I quit buying candy to because of it. Most of them now go to Church Trunk Halloweens. Seems to be a big thing here right now. It sure is safer for sure. But I do miss seeing the kids.
