OctoberFest 2023 Step Challenge and Scavenger Hunt

October

It is the first full month of fall, cooler weather around in the Baltimore area; I’m even wearing long pants some days! Holidays and parties are around the corner and I am trying to be mindful of all the goodies coming my way in the next few months. Moderation. Moderation. Moderation. But for NOW, lets just enjoy the weather and the changing seasons and get out an MOVE.

General monthly instructions are below, including the monthly picture scavenger hunt.
How It Works

The primary purpose of these monthly challenges is to keep track of your daily step goals for the month; though many of us track other things as well, like body weight exercises, sleep, trips to the gym, logging food, etc. This is not a competition to see who can do the most of whatever, instead it is a challenge to measure your consistency. So whether you do 1k, 5k, 10k or even 40k steps a day, this is measuring how many days out of the monthly total you can hit your goal.

Some might have a constant goal of 10k steps every single day and others might have a variable goal throughout the week, (and some might even plan days off!) for example.
Monday -> Friday = 10k steps a day
Sat & Sun = “6k steps a day,” or “not tracking”

Regardless of how you structure your daily goals, the only thing that matters for the monthly challenge is whether or not you reach what you set out to do.

Suggested Posting Format
1) Post either your constant or variable step goal.
2) Keep track of the # of daily goals achieved out of the monthly minimum and or monthly total

Picture Scavenger Hunt

The theme this month is … seasonal changes (a tree or flower or storefront at the beginning of the month, and again at the end); Halloween decorations/costumes, trick or treaters; German OctoberFEST related.

Posting

Although you certainly don’t have to post daily, you’ll likely stay closer to what you set out to do by updating the thread several times/week

Injury Notice
If you injure yourself during the month and need to scale back due to the injury, then all you have to do is adjust your goal for that period. If you normally do 10k steps a day but pull a hamstring and decide to do minimal walking (2k steps a day), then all you have to do is change your goal.

I swore I posted yesterday, but I can't find it anywhere.  Had some time off at the end of September.  I may be transitioning soon to a different fitness tracker.  My Fitbit is requiring charges more frequently, and I'll have to switch by 2025 anyway.

@SteppingBooks - one nice thing about our monthly ‘set your own goals’ thread is that it is tracker agnostic.

@NellyG - I’ll be traveling nearly two weeks too. Flying out Saturday night. I’m going to try and up my bike miles the next few days since that will be limited, but in the end I may just adjust the goals.

It's been so long since the Orioles were in the playoffs that my neighbor dug up some 'retired' players just in case we need some help now that we are in.

@SteppingBooks - I’m curious, which Fitbit tracker do you have that you will have to change by 2025? I have a Sense (1).

@Baltoscott  True!  At least until the complete move to Google accounts only.

@Jotex It's not so much my tracker that is why I'd have to switch by 2025.  I don't have a Google account, and I won't create a new email address for the sole purpose of Fitibt/Google.  In one of the announcements, they said that by 2025, all users must switch to Google accounts.  I have a Charge 4 currently; 3 years old.
