Please help me understand Carbs, Protein, calories etc

Hi all,

 

I'm new here and I dont understand some basic stuff.

1) How do you use the ONE effectivly and efficiently

2) I see ehat I eat and that it's broken down into Carbs, Protein, calories etc BUT there is no target numbers for each. Unless i'm missing something, it's telling me what I take in, but not what i should be taking in. Does this make sense? HELP!

1 - That question would best be posted in the forum group for the One to get more people that are using it to give some tips beyond just Fitbit usage, and specific to that device.

 

2 - Yep. And that's why they integrate and sync with several sites that handle the eating side much better, better goal setting of macros, better food diaries, better recipe builders, ect.

So Fitbit reports to those sites what you burned in the day, and then that site takes the info, removes a deficit (like Fitbit is doing), and gives you your new eating goal based on what you actually burn.

While giving much better food management options.

MyFitnessPal (despite the name), is popular one, perhaps others will comment on ones they use and why they like them.

Welcome to Fitbit, I have been using it in connection with My Fitness Pal and I record everything that I eat during the day, it has a chart that will show you the percentage of Fat, Protein and Carbs that you have consumed. It should be 35% protein, with 33% of fat and 32% or less of carbs. Carbs like sugar, white flour, pasta, rice and potatoes will bring up the percentage of your daily carb amounts.

If you want a percentage, read "The Starch Solution" by Dr. McDougall.

 

33% fat is a recipe for cardiac disease. Don't take my word for it. Read the book which is full of references you can find on the internet.

 

32% proteins is a recipe for gallbladder disease, kidney stones and other problems.

Fitbit Premium gives you a report of your food consumptions. It also evaluates your diet and recommends levels for maintenance and weight loss. Most diets are 30% average for Fat, Carbs and Protein or Protein very high and the other two very low.

It would really depend on what your needs are.  If you are wanting to lose weight and preserve your muscle, then your protein should be higher and your carbs should be lower, but not out of whack.  You need both to live, think and feel good.  We need fat in our diets to keep our gallbladder healthy and to absorb vitamins and nutrients from our food, but fats add up quickly in the calorie department and we don't need lots of fat.  If you want more information, I'd b happy to answer any more questions. --Sue = Certified Health Coach with 75lbs lost in 6 months, 3 years maintaining!
